Today is gonna be better.
Nothing is gonna stop me from having a happy day with Matteo.
This is the last thing I need to do. I said goodbye and thanked Santi and I gave Alice a happy last memory of me.
I can't bear to say goodbye to her in person, I'd never be able to go through with it after so I'll leave her with a note.
Digging through the boxes I never got around to unpack, I search for my mother's cookbook. I'm not the best cook but I want to cook Matteo a dish that runs in my family.
Let's pray I don't burn the house down.
I finally find the book and relief fills me when I find the recipe.
Risotto was a dish that my mother was excellent at making. "It brings comfort to the soul and warmth to the heart" She'd always say then she'd add a dramatic pause. "And stomach." She'd add with a wink, making my sisters and I giggle.
I can't wait to see my sister and mom again. It's been way too long since I'd been held in their holds.
Just a little longer. I remind myself.
I make sure to walk very quietly past Matteo's office where he's currently working, I want to surprise him. Once I'm in the kitchen, I read my mother's recipe once more before gathering the ingredients.
There's just something about making your mother's recipe that's so comforting.
I wish Matteo could've met her. From what he's told me about his childhood, his mother wasn't very tender. She seemed to not have any traits that would resemble a mother at all.
Sabrina starts rubbing on my legs and I look to see that her food bowl is empty. I stop what I'm doing and fill it but she runs south side of the house.
My heart drops into my stomach. "Sabrina, no." I panic, shaking the cat food bag in hopes that will lure her back but she doesn't come.
With a deep breath, I follow her. "It's fine," I whisper to myself. "Nothing's gonna happen."
I see Sabrina's tail for a split second before she disappears into the ballroom where I first saw the black figure. "Fuck," I whisper.
I shake the cat food again, she doesn't come. I call her name, she doesn't come.
Cursing, I open the door to the ballroom. My eyes quickly search the room and I breathe out in relief when I see nothing. "Sabrina," I call again and shake the cat food. She runs out of the curtains past me, going back to the main part of the house.
"Thank god," I sigh and turn to follow but something drops right in front of me and I fall to my ass in shock.
I groan and open my eyes. A scream rips from my throat.
Alyssa's body hangs from the ceiling. Her neck is broken, resting on her shoulder as her lifeless eyes stare at me. Just as they did the night I found her.
"Oh god," I whimper, crawling backwards away from the body.
Her body starts flying towards me, missing me as I jump to my feet. I run through the hallway. Deja vu hitting me.
