Wednesday October 20th
Ginny and I had dressed up for the annual Prefect dinner it was one of the perks of being a prefect. We could all bring a plus one, Ginny was mine and Ron took Hermione, Harry was here too, but that was only because he was the last student to leave Hogwarts for autumn break. And he would go with Ginny and Ron home anyway so Dumbledore agreed that he could stay as his "plus one"
The prefect dinner was a casual dinner where we all dressed up just a little bit. It's just a dinner where we sit and talk about the year and what we can do better for the other students and each other. As we sit seventeen students plus Dumbledore just eating Ginny puts her hand on my thigh as Dumbledore starts speaking. I place my hand on top of hers just like a reflex. Dumbledore starts speaking and he says: "So we have talked about all on my agenda, does anyone have anything to add or something to discuss?"
He looks around as Ernie Macmillan raises his hand and says: "Do we actually allow gay students on Hogwarts?"
Dumbledore looks concerned at Ernie then over on Ginny and me and says calmly: "We accept any student with magical abilities."
Ernie: "But gay's aren't normal."
Dumbledore: "Muggles aren't normal either are they?"
Ernie: "I suppose not."
Dumbledore: "Muggles exist even if they aren't what you would call normal and so does gay's."
I didn't know Ernie was a homophobe or maybe he isn't homophobic, maybe he just doesn't like me. Anyway, Dumbledore supports us and wouldn't expel us just for being gay. A few students have asked questions about me and Ginny but only out if curiosity and not to judge us, some people even have called us brave for showing our relationship in the open even if we know that gays have almost no rights in the muggle world. But in the wizarding world everything is different. And I am just happy that I get to live in the "better" world, even if it isn't the safest place. But that doesn't always matter, I have great friends, an amazing girlfriend and I'm learning new things every day I couldn't be happier. With Ginny by my side, I can do anything. Because of her and Hermione I started speaking my mind and growing as a person.
