"I look away for two seconds and you two are already cheating!!" Ryan yelled pointing his fingers at teeter and I. "Keep your eyes on the damn game! Not our asses!" Tater hollered back at him. "Restart. Y'all are cheating" Colby complained. "Tell me how the fuck you cheat at horseshoes!" I laughed loudly into the glass tip of my beer bottle. "I don't know but y'all are doing in!" Colby picked up the shoes at were buried in the sand. I glanced over at teeter who was giggling up a storm. "Y'all ain't shit. You're just too scared to admit it" I shrugged my shoulders picking up the other set of shoes. "No we're playing for real now. Come on girl. Throw that thang!" Ryan chuckled. "Hell nah! You first since you think we're cheating and all!" I sipped my beer leaning back on the old beaten up farm truck that we used as a table for our beers. "Fine!" He yipped as they began to play. I shifted my eyes to the field where Jennings played with a stick all by her lonesome. She didn't have many to play with. Carter was too old and Casey doesn't come around much with tate. I feel bad for her. She was very independent and very sassy. I feel a lot of guilt because I couldn't give her siblings. I thought about sending her to school, but rip feels that everything she will learn could be taught on the ranch by everyone around her. It's June now, she'll be 6 in a matter of weeks. I think then I will send her off to school. "It's your turn scar face!!" Colby mocked. I came back to reality. "Suck on some bull nuts. Hell! If i win you have to go to my finest bull and kiss his nuts!" I shouted. The boys cackled loudly. "Fuck you! Hell no!" He called. "No that's what I want!! If I win you kiss balls!" Colby thought for a moment. "fine! And if we win you owe us each $400!" He smirked. I glanced over at tater as she nodded. "Deal!" I laughed as I tossed the shoe causing it to spin around on the steel rod. Colby's face dropped as he looked over at Ryan. Ryan shook his head. "You're fucked!" He teased as he drank his beer. "Mama!!" I hear Jennings call. I look up from the game to see a huge tractor trailer pulling up the drive. "Anyone know Travis was coming to town?" Colby questioned. Lloyd sucked his teeth "yeah yeah, johns looking for some new studs" he mentioned as he sat on the tailgate. A slight smile perked on my lips. "Come on Twitty! It's your damn turn!!" Colby called. "Alright! Alright you nut sucker" I took a shot, right around the rod it went. I threw up both of my fingers "get shit on!" I yelled. The boys laughed loudly. "That makes me the fucking winner!" I called out pushing Colby to the fence. "See that bull out there Colby jack??" I pointed out to a very large bull out in the pasture. "That bad boy has your name written all over his sack!" I patted his chest vigorously. "Oh fuck you Twitty" he scoffed in disbelief. "We made a deal!" I smiled. "Whatever!!" He groaned as he moped to the open truck bed to grab another beer. "You're gonna need something a little stronger than beer baby" teeter giggled smacking his shoulder. I laughed to myself as I wandered to the tractor trailers that held a couple tens of horses. "My my my, ain't that my Twitty bird, flapping her wings ready to fly!" Travis sang as he stepped out of the large truck. My smile grew 10 yards wide. "Where have you been all my life" I Snickers before he gracefully took me into his arms hugging me tightly with my feet off the ground. "My how sexy you are. You don't age at all mama" he held my head in his great big palms. "I wish I could say the same" I smirked. He patted my face mimicking a slap. "Woah! Who is this!?" He called out as Jennings ran up to confront him. "Travis this is my daughter Jennings. Jennings this is Mr. Wheatley" Jennings watched him closely with suspicious eyes. "Hi Mr Travis" she says in a bratty tone. I smacked her shoulder. "Jen. Be nice. Travis is a good friend of mine" I say as she looked up at me. "I am being nice. Have you met my daddy?" She questioned. He smiled with a chuckle. "Not sure I have" he glanced at me. "It ain't me right?" He joked. "No! My daddy is over there!" She pointed behind us at rip walking his horse back towards the barn. Travis looked at me in slight shock. I looked down a bit uncomfortable. "He gets it Jen. They've met" Jennings shook her head. "He'll kick your ass!" She says with high confidence. Travis put his hands on his hips and belted a laugh "oohhh I'm sure he could" I grabbed Jens arm directing her to the house "why don't you go figure out what your granddaddy is doin huh. He'll go see what your daddy is doing?" She shook her head "I can see what he's doing. Why do I have to go find out?" She asked with annoyance. "Jennings!" I groaned. "Wait hold on just a minute" Travis interrupted. "I've got something you just might enjoy" he reached up into the cab of his large truck and dug through it for a moment. Jennings looked at me with an evil smile on her face. "Ah!" He yips "here we are" slowly he turned to us, holding in his two hands was a small border collie puppy. Jen squealed in excitement. "for me!?" She yelled. "he's actually for your mama. But she's gonna need your help looking after him" Jennings took the puppy from his hands. "What's his name?" She asked with so much hope. "Conway" he smirked as he glanced at me. "Come on Conway! Ill show you around!" She began to walk away but not without glaring at Travis with her famous mean suspicious eyes. "She's something ain't she?" Travis laughed aloud. I looked at Travis with glazed over loving eyes. "Travis..." I held back tears as I hugged him again tightly. "I can't believe you" I laughed. "Anything for you Twitty bird" he said with a low lovely voice. "Thought you forgot about me for awhile trav.." I looked down at our boots. "I never stop thinking about you Twitty girl. To the point where it's kinda unhealthy" he chuckled. "I'm glad you're here trav. I really am" I gave him a soft smile before he shut his truck door. He placed his hand on my back as he walked with me. "Where's your old man?" He questioned. "Not sure. I don't focus on him much" he cocked his brow "no? You used to be his own puppy! Following him around all the time"
"Things change. A lot of unforgettable things happened between us that my mind can't forget nor forgive" he patted my lower back. "Somethings are worth forgiving Birdy. Keep that in mind" I nodded "no matter how much anyone hurts me I still would do anything for them"
