"I would really like to see you tonight"
I smiled cheekily down at the pan of eggs I pushed in circles to scramble. "How bad?" I giggled under my breath. My cheeks were flushed as I held the phone against my shoulder and ear, Cracking open an egg he speaks "real bad. I miss your smile. Would you be alright if I took you to dinner tonight?" I leaned my back against the counter twirling a peice of hair in my fingers. "It isn't easy to just get up and go out mal. I have a daughter at home" I glanced over at Jennings writing in her school notebook at the kitchen table. "She has a father doesn't she?"
"Well yeah..but...I don't want anyone to know I'm...seeing someone. You know?"
"You're ashamed of me? Honey?"
I giggled to myself again. "No. It's just no one's business. Listen her father isn't in the best shape. I just -"
"Then I'll come to your home when she's asleep. Does that work?"
I sighed "I'll find someone to watch her. No big deal. I'll meet with you later tonight?"
"Perfect baby. I'll see you then" I set the phone down to finish up breakfast. I glanced up at rip walking down the stairs. "Daddy!" Jennings smiled. Rip kissed her small head before sitting down next to her with a groan. "Let's see it" I say and I squat below him slowly unbuttoning his shirt. Rip leans back in his chair. "How's it look?"
"Real nice. You've got a nice healed epidermis. Looks like you're gonna live" I smacked his arm as I walked back to the stove. "Good. I'm not missing anymore work" I laid a plate in front of Jen then handed rip a cup of black coffee. "Can we finally go riding daddy?" Jen asked with a mouth full. "Finish chewing then maybe" he smiled at her before sipping his mug. "Hey" Carter spoke as he mushed through the front door. I glared at him. "Where have you been?" I questioned. "Outside"
"Doing what?""Nothing. I was just...going for a walk"
I squinted my eyes at him. "Don't knock anyone up Carter""I ain't doing anything like that!"
"You are not doing anything like that. Use proper grammar you're not from the city" I placed a plate of eggs in front of him as he dug in like a pig as a growing boy does. I stood with my hand on my hip watching rip. He glanced up at me from a newspaper. He cocked his brow "Yeahhh?"
"I think that's a good idea" I spoke as I turned around to do dishes. "What is?""You taking Jen for the night"
"It was a spoken about idea. Why?"
I shrugged "I have a business meeting tonight. I won't be home for awhile""What business meeting Twitty. You don't have business. You're a felon"
I glared back at rip with a 'shut your mouth' kind of look. He shrugged it off staring back into his paper. "I got no problem taking her out Twitty""You had no choice" I wiped down the counter then kicked Carter's leg. "Behave today. Stay clear from any broads" I say as I rubbed his head. Carter rolled his eyes then slipped on his jacket. He held open the door waiting for rip. "And you!" I stood Jennings up on her chair as Zipped up her jacket. "you go straight to papas. Aunt Monica will be waiting for you. You did finish your homework right?" Jen looked up at the ceiling to avoid me. "Jennings. I ask you a question. If you didn't do that homework your ass will be grass. I'll make sure Daddy doesn't take you for any rides!" I said sternly. "I finished it mama! I finished! Geez!" She scoffed. Jen hopped down from the kitchen chair to follow Carter outside. "Hey! Kiss!" I demanded. Jen waddled over leaving me with a giant smooch and a sassy attitude.
....
I stood Infront of my mirror running hands down my skin tight black dress. I turned my body to the side to look at my curves and edges. For a moment I thought I looked great. For the first time in a long time I thought of myself as attractive. I slipped on gold earrings in my ears following a gold necklace that fell between my chest. I glanced at myself one more time in the full length mirror. Behind me rip stood in the doorway admiring the way I looked. "Wow" he spoke with a gasping breath. I watched him through the mirror and he stepped behind me. His fingertips placed on my hips as he ran them down to my thigh. "Do I look all right" I asked nervously. "Your breathtaking. Who would have thought you can wear something else other than mud peeled jeans" he chuckled. I smiled slightly down at the ground as I turned to face him. "I wish I can cover the scars on my face. I think I'd look 10 times better" I spoke with slight sadness. When I work outside I get sunburn on my face that causes the scars on my cheeks and eye to boil red. "It's not noticeable. At least not with that body" he smiled. His fingertips stayed on my hips as he sat down on the bed. I watched him closely. "Who you going out with tonight twitty girl?" Rip asked as he stayed focused on my hips. "Nobody you know"
