Good old fashioned lover boy

1975

You lounged around your house, sighing in boredom. Your boyfriend Freddie was with the band at the studio recording for their upcoming album, A Night At The Opera, so you were left alone with the cats for company.

You were immensely proud of Freddie and how well he's done for only three years into his career, so very proud, but sometimes you really envied him for that. Not horribly, but you wished that you could have at least half of his gift and that you could be a songwriting, singing master as well.

Sometimes you had written songs of your own, but it was usually only for fun and when you had nothing else to do. You never showed Freddie any of your songs because you didn't think of them as very good and you feared he might judge you.

Sighing, you got up and reached for your notebook, eyeing it with hesitation. You could never really make up your mind on whether or not you enjoyed writing songs, it was sort of an unconscious thing you did when you were alone and didn't really give it much thought.

You continued to stare at it debatingly, sighing.

"There's no better activities though, and I can't honestly expect to improve if I don't practice." A voice in your head reasoned.

You opened the notebook and flipped to a blank page, letting your breath out slowly.

Writing songs didn't come as naturally to you as it did Freddie, but you had been doing it for long enough and you understood the basics.

After a few moments, you had put pen to paper and written a full song. The lyrics weren't as bland and boring like the results of the songs you had came up with prior, and you had put more feeling into this one than you had with all your others. It felt shocking to admit, but you were truly quite proud of it.

You bit your lip thoughtfully and walked into yours and Freddie's bedroom, sitting down at the Persian's beloved piano.

Slowly, you began to tap the keys and sing the lyrics of your newest song.

"I heard that you're settled down, and you've found a girl, and you're married now.

I heard, that your dreams came true.

Guess she gave you things I didn't give to you..

Old friend, why are you so shy? Ain't like you to hold back, or hide from the light.

I hate to turn up out of the blue uninvited but I couldn't stay away, I couldn't fight it I'd hoped you'd seen my face, and that you'd be reminded that for me, it isn't over...

Never mind, I'll find someone like you...

I wish nothing but the best for you too.

Don't forget me, I beg, I remember you said, 'sometimes it lasts in love, but sometimes it hurts instead...'

Sometimes it lasts in love, but sometimes it hurts instead...

You know how the time flies, only yesterday was the time of our lives and we were born and raised...in a summer haze, bound by the surprise, of our glory days...

Sometimes it lasts in love, but sometimes it hurts instead..."

You marveled at how good your voice sounded, surely that had never happened before?
