1974

"We're going to the rainbow! We're having a real show! We're going to the rainbow! We're having a real show!"

Roger being his chaotic self was nothing new, you had long accepted that fact, but you truly couldn't deny that it also had quite a way of getting on your nerves.

"For fuck's sakes, someone needs to shut him up." You grumbled annoyedly, glancing over at Roger who kept talking excitedly to Brian, the guitarist also looking fed up with the drummer's overexcitement.

"Unfortunately, I don't think that's going to be happening for a while." John sighed, peering out the window inside the car.

"He's one of my best friends and all, but he should really save the screaming for when you guys get on stage." You quipped, earning a chuckle from the bassist.

"I heard that!" Roger exclaimed from the seat behind you, staring at your seat with a scowl.

"You were meant to, blondie." You snickered.

Roger rolled his eyes and kept ranting to Brian, though he began to look equally as  agitated as you felt about Roger's rambling.

Freddie was sitting in the back, his lips in a straight line and his eyes focused on the floor.

"Is everything alright with him?" You asked John quietly, gesturing towards the Persian's direction.

John followed your gaze, staring blankly at the singer.

"He's fine, he's just...in one of his moods." He said the last part slowly.

You raised an eyebrow at that, sending a small and reassuring smile to Freddie who had just begun looking up.

Freddie smiled back without showing his teeth, his cheeks gaining color as he bit his lip.

The car parked outside the rainbow theater, which caught your attention as the five of you event inside.

You couldn't help but keep looking at Freddie, who was the last to get out of the car and while you were probably just imagining it, seemed to be looking in your direction while walking inside.

"Oh get a grip, Y/N. You're in front of him, of course he'd be looking ahead of you." You dismissed the thought, chatting mindlessly with John as the band prepared for their show.

"He's still staring at you eh?" John raised an eyebrow, making you jump.

"Who's still staring at me?" You inquired, clueless about what he was talking about.

"Freddie, of course! He hasn't taken his eyes off you ever since we got here." He smirked.

"H-He hasn't been staring at me, he was just looking ahead of me since we were in front of him." You defended, crossing your arms.

"When we were outside, but even then he was strictly staring right at you. He seemed quite flustered when you smiled at him too." John added pointedly, though you just blinked in confusion.

"What are you saying Deaky?" You sighed, not knowing what he was getting at.

"Y/N, he fancies you! It's quite obvious." He snickered, making you freeze.

Freddie fancied you? Freddie Mercury, the sweetest, sexiest, cutest and most beautiful man in the world, fancied you? Either you were the most oblivious person in the world, or John had once again proved to everyone that he wasn't as innocent as people thought he was and got drunker than possible.

"Um...Yeah, okay." You mumbled, still not believing the bassist's words.

A soft gasp was then heard from the doorway, quickly catching your attention as you and John whirled around.

Freddie stood there looking like a deer caught in headlights, then ran off at the speed of light.

John had merely crossed his arms satisfactorily and gave you an "I told you so" look.

"Bloody hell," You sighed to yourself, knowing that if Freddie DID truly like you that way and he HAD been embarrassed that John revealed his secret, he was probably scared out of his mind about how you would react.

"You may want to speak with him once we're off stage." John mumbled, you nodding silently in response.

"He's probably having a mental breakdown right now..." You said quietly, knowing how bad Freddie's anxiety could get.

And if John was somehow right about him truly harboring feelings for you, that certainly wouldn't help his distress.

You watched as the boys eventually went on stage, Freddie seeming confident and carefree despite the nerves that were secretly rattling around inside of him. However, he pushed that aside and gave a fantastic show, you staring at him in awe and admiration of his talent.

You knew from the moment you first heard him and the boys perform together that they would go far, and that concert certainly proved that to you.

"Thank you, good night!" Freddie shouted to the audience, whisking John away with him off stage and pushing him into his dressing room, the singer's neutral expression now morphing into one of fury.

"YOU BASTARD! I KNOW YOU TOLD HER!" He yelled, peaking your interest as you followed the sound of Freddie's enraged voice.

"F-Freddie, what-" John spluttered in shock before Freddie cut him off.

"YOU TOLD HER! You told her the truth and now she'll leave me forever because of you!" He cried haggardly, and what John had told you finally came through.

Freddie fancied you.

"Freddie, let him go." You spoke up, surprisingly calmly as you walked up to the singer.

Freddie's eyes got round and nervous as he obeyed, slowly backing away from John who fled the room immediately.

"Freddie, do you really have feelings for me?" You asked in a small voice, needing to hear it from him.

He made a sound from the back of his throat and gulped, finally looking up at you meekly before nodding fearfully.

You wanted to sob in relief but couldn't, far too relieved to even feel anything else.

"Freddie, I like you too." You laughed shakily, taking his hand into yours as you leaned forward and kissed him.

Freddie was frozen as your lips tenderly rubbed against his, looking at you with glassy eyes as he kissed back.

You slowly pulled away, making a mental note to yourself to kiss Freddie more often as it seemed that was what made him smile too widely to be able to cover it up.

"John's forgiven." Freddie said in somewhat of a blissful daze, making you laugh in spite of yourself as you kissed him again.

The end.
