I knocked on his door, and he opened it in record time. Almost as if he had been waiting for me by the door.
"Do come in, my dear." He said with a smile and an elegant wave of his hand.
I followed his request and waited for him to offer me a seat, which he did fairly soon.
"I can't help but notice that you are no longer wearing the beautiful outfit from before. Although I didn't see much of you in it. I must say it suited you quite well!" He said, and I swear I saw a tint of red flush on his cheeks.
"You flatter me far too much, james! Though you are correct. I'm such a clumsy thing. I got a big stain on it, I just hope I can get it out. Way to ruin a perfectly preserved item of clothing." I said, hating myself for ruining such an amazing fabric.
"Oh, there is no need to be so upset! Mrs. Evers!" He yelled.
"Yes, Mr. March." A weary but energetic voice called out, followed by a loundress walking in from one of the backrooms.
"This is my laundress. Mrs. Evers." He said to me before turning to her. "You pride yourself that you can get any stain out. Isn't that correct, mrs. Ever?" He said with a smile, and the laundress gave him a triumphant smile. Her eyes were focused on James, and they were filled with adoration.
"Yes. That is correct, sir." She declared.
"Good. Then you could help Y/N, here with a stain." He said and turned to me.
Her face fell a bit, but just for a second. "Oh, you know, Mr. March, I can't promise, with these new types of clothing." She said.
"Nonsense, you'll have no trouble with it. Since the fabric is one of our time." He said in a lower tone.
"Of course. Then, I will do my best to get rid of the stain." She said and looked at me.
"Oh, yes. It's in my bathroom. I'm soaking it, my grandma told me that that helps with stains." I said hecticly.
"A wise woman. Though I find that steaming is sometimes more helpful." Mrs. Evers said and rushed out of the room.
"I couldn't even thank her." I said, which made James chuckle.
"You'll get another chance, dear. It's not like she'll vanish from the hotel after cleaning." He chuckled again. A deep chuckle that made my skin crawl.
