Carmen fell asleep almost instantly when she hit the bed, she didn't care if it was on a stiff metal board or if it was cold, she was exhausted. She hadn't slept well at all, not after being at sea on Cleopatra's ship, or before when she was on Laurine's ship, or when she was in India. All she was looking for was some time to herself where she could lie down and rest.
Yu slowly approached the bed, curious about testing a theory of hers. Despite the pleas of the others in Chaldea, she touched Carmen, placing a hand on the girl's arm, and she was knocked out. When she awoke, she found herself in a room filled with mirrors. Nine in total showing the images of the previous kings. Alexandra, Laverna, Guan Yin, and Shrutakarma. The next was Tutankhamun, she knew that bandaged body anywhere. After him, the images were too blurry for her to make out a figure, but she had heard of the names when she was a council member. King Eros of Greece, that had to be the one beside Tutankhamun, the serious look on his face said it all.
Before she went further, Carmen startled her. The mage asked her how and why she was in the mirror world, and she shrugged, all she did was touch Carmen's arm and she was taken in. She wanted to test her theory about dreams; Abhimanyu had accidentally done the same and he was able to see Shrutakarma's memories. And she was convinced it would be a good idea. She pointed at the mirrors, wondering if they changed after each realm's king was defeated. Carmen nodded; they reflected on the waking world's events. When they saved Shrutakarma, his image became more apparent.
Carmen touched the mirror that had Tutankhamun's portrait as Yu tilted her head to see what would happen. The two found themselves in the desert before the sandstorm hit, Tutankhamun was standing before a man in white armor covered in green wires. He blocked an attack, holding his hand out to stop the sword that the armored soldier wielded. The soldier seemed unphased and struck again, using a second sword to hit Tutankhamun's arm and slightly cut through the skin. The king was surprised to see someone hurt him; it had been years since his blood was drawn.
He grabbed the soldier's swords and took both away, he thought that would stop the attacks, but he was wrong. The soldier had one more weapon to use: a large cannon that was attached to the left arm and was pointed at him. He was so focused on the swords that he didn't notice it was charging while on the soldier's back the whole time, he was blasted, the bandages on his body tearing and exposing his scars from the war. He tried to get up only to find the soldier pointing the cannon at him again, one more shot was surely enough to kill him. The soldier, however, was looking away from him, something was in the distance, and seconds, they were gone with the wind.
Tutankhamun sat up, holding his stomach to hide the scars. He was beaten by someone whose name he never got; the white armor was all he remembered.
The scene changed, heading towards Tutankhamun sitting on the throne. He summoned Narmer and Ahmose to the throne room and asked for their help, with Cleopatra and Nebka gone, they were the last council members he could trust. He ordered them to continue their mission and take out those who opposed him. With that, he had business to do, forcing them out of the castle.
"You're an idiot if you think Cleopatra and Nebka are coming back to save you," Abhmose said. "They're too scared to face the king again."
"Don't you think I know that?" Narmer asked. "And what about you? You sure played both sides back there."
"Whatever gets me to my goal, that's the only explanation you need."
Narmer turned to him, an angry gaze in her eyes. "You're a coward, just like everyone else; stop pretending like you have everything under control or that you'll get the throne if you play your cards right. We all know that Tutankhamun won't give up just because two of his council members flew the nest."
