Marzanna led the team to the next town. It was surrounded by a large wooden spiked fence and heavily guarded. The border separating Russia and Finland was close, being within walking distance, and the town was only hidden thanks to the heavy snowfall. Devana talked to the guard about seeing the leader and he let her in, she gestured to the team to follow her and they entered. Unlike the other towns, soldiers were wandering the streets, and most looked ready for war. Shops were closed, houses were boarded up, and farmlands were dry.
The leader was Sveta Castorena, the same woman who brushed Carmen's team as children when she met them. She had her black hair in a high ponytail and wore a black dress with red belts on the skirt. She was on a guard tower and jumped down when she was called for. She went right up to Carmen, dismissing the others, and saw how confident the girl looked. She patted Carmen's shoulder and guided the team through her town. Everyone she looked after had problems with the King and was looking for revenge, they were ready to fight whenever the chance allowed it.
Carmen was uneasy about how friendly she was, she seemed indifferent when they met, so seeing her act like they were old friends was strange. She opened the door to the town hall and let them check it out. There were plenty of stolen goods from the castle and books about Russia's history. Sveta was dead set on getting back at the King. There was no doubt about that.
Sveta sat at her desk and asked what they wanted from her. No one came to her without needing something. Marzanna admitted that they wanted as much help as they could before they entered Russia. They were going to fight the King. Sveta laughed; she hadn't heard anything as crazy as that in years. Especially not from someone like Marzanna, the one person who she thought never wanted to return to Russia. She calmed down and sighed. She would help them if they helped out around town.
They were running low on supplies and needed more. She had two of her soldiers go into the mines but they hadn't returned. If they could get everything on the list and bring back her allies, she would get them in Russia. Devana wanted to protest, the mines were shut down because of how dangerous they became. Powerful monsters resided inside and not even the King would touch them. It was insane to have anyone go inside, a death sentence.
Sveta crossed her arms. She wasn't going to change her condition. Carmen agreed if it meant they didn't have to fight a battle they couldn't win, and Sveta showed them where to go. Gathering the materials wasn't hard, all she needed were some crops that were growing out of the snow and monster parts. Going to the mines was a different story, there was powerful energy inside making the Casters shiver and the roars coming from it scared Carmen.
Mitra pulled her back from going inside, there was no way they were exploring it. Not with how dangerous the monster was. She assured him that they weren't going to fight. All they needed to do was track down the soldiers Sveta sent inside. The group entered and didn't like how creepy it was, especially knowing a monster could come out and kill them at any time. Helena opened her book when she heard a noise. Devana stabbed an arrow into the wall and went down to see what it was.
Soldiers were on the ground, they were injured and needed help. One was a woman with long blonde hair in a braid, and teal eyes, and wore a black dress with a cotton cloak around her shoulders. The other was a man with short black hair, dark blue eyes, and a white suit with a black sash going across his chest. They had broken swords near them and scratches all over their body.
Mitra healed their wounds and they said that a monster was located deeper inside. They were supposed to investigate it but ended up getting too close and were attacked. They barely got out alive and if the group hadn't helped them up, they were sure to be dead. Carmen looked down at the darkness before going with them back to the entrance, she was curious about what monster lived there that scared even the King.
