"I didn't put that much thought into it," Beryl said, climbing down the ladder back into the submarine. "It was natural."
"You're a lifesaver, that's for sure," Medusa giggled. "We would've drowned if it weren't for you."
"Let's just get you guys out of here, being a ghost sucks, believe me, I still don't know who I am."
"You did good too, brother." Laurine shifted her glance to James, "thanks for your help."
"Listen, Laurine, about the whole husband thing..." James sighed. "I'm sorry I got him killed."
"What are you talking about?"
"Your husband, William Fostima, I'm the one who got him branded as a criminal and the system killed him."
"So, that's what happened."
"Weren't you looking for me because you were trying to get back at me?!"
Laurine had her hand on her cheek, "I think so... I remember being mad at you before I left, and I made a deal with Chaldea to find you... otherwise... I don't know. I guess I forgot."
"You... forgot about your husband's death... Laurine... what happened to you?"
"Hell, if I know. I don't even remember how Dad died."
James seemed shocked, "he... the system... are you okay?"
"Is it akin to a memory eraser?" Beryl thought out loud.
"I'm dead... so the system doesn't affect me."
James crossed his arms, then he recalled his time when he was alive. When the system killed people's family members and close friends, they never seemed depressed afterward. It was like they forgot about who died. Even so, some emotions persisted, and it was likely because Laurine left Xiatain that she had some remnant of her anger toward him. Carmen barely remembered the deal she made with Laurine, it had to be back when they first met, and she knew it meant a great deal to Laurine. Though, with the siblings in the same room, Laurine seemed not to care that the person she was looking for was there.
Beryl tapped on Carmen's shoulder before they went to face Mazu and escape the labyrinth, he had one last question. He wanted to know who "Zemlupus" was. It was a name written in an old book he found, and he had vague memories of that person. Carmen gave him a basic description of Kadoc, explaining that he was a subpar mage who had an anti-beast family crest. Yu added that Kadoc was the only human overlord in Caligo and ruled over the southern territory, however, since his disappearance, Kirschtaria was proclaimed the leader until he returned. Beryl was curious about what happened to Kadoc only for Yu to shake her head, further information about it never got out.
She had a theory though; the White Bishop's presence grew once he was gone. She believed the Crypter had something to do with Kadoc's disappearance to gain power. But Beryl had a hard time believing that, Kadoc was a man who never gave up and who hated being pinned down by someone else. If the White Bishop could defeat him or kill him, that spoke leagues of how powerful the Crypter was. Beryl asked Carmen a favor, if she went to Caligo and met the White Bishop, he wanted her to figure out what happened to Kadoc. Maybe it was the reason he couldn't move on.
Nemo's submarine finally hit the seventh layer and the crew exited the ruins. It was cleaned with no rubble on the ground and the stones were polished despite being cracked. Mazu greeted them, her form slightly confusing the group. She looked young, with short black hair, black eyes with green pupils, and wore a green shirt with a matching scarf around her arms, black pants with a green skirt open at the front, and grey boots. She floated down to see them and wasn't much taller than Helena, even Syne titled her head. She was expecting someone different when she heard about Mazu taking over the labyrinth.
