Jackson

I just got out of open gym, which is just where we get on the rink and work on whatever we need to but it's not a real practice. I head to the showers before I leave the locker room.

As soon as I'm done I throw on a pair of sweats and a t-shirt and head back to the apartment.

It's a Friday night and it's already dark outside.
I decided against going to a party tonight because I think I remembered Ameeriah mentioning that she needed to study.

As me and Wes walk back, I decide to mess with him a little.
"Just in case it's not clear, I'm staying on campus this weekend, so I don't wanna walk in on any face sucking this weekend."

Wes just rolls his eyes. "Fuck off Jackson."

His phone vibrates in his pocket and he looks at the message. He has a stupid grin on his face as he's texting back and then puts his phone away.

"Was that Adare?"
"Yeah how'd you know?"
"You're so fucking obvious," I say with a light laugh.

I don't know if it's because it's late or if it's because I'm tired or because it's dark but I'm really fucking curious so I decide to ask Wes.
"What's it like?"
"Hm?" Wes turns his head, confused.

I swallow. "Like, you know, Adare and stuff, you guys."
"Jackson, if you're asking me about sex right now, your dad should have given you the talk a longgg time ago."

"Fuck you dude," I laugh and shove him. I exhale a breath. "Seriously, like, what's it like to actually love someone?" I ask him.
"Are you actually asking?" He says.
"Yes, duh! That's what 'seriously' means."

He sighs before he starts talking. "I don't really know how to describe it. It's just," he pauses, "it's always been about her. Everything, it's just, everything has always been about her."

"Well that's helpful," I say jokingly and he kinda laughs.

"I told you I can't describe it dude," he pauses. "If I was told that I could never do anything physical with her ever again, never even touch her again for that matter, I would literally be completely fine with just being able to be in her presence."

I kinda widen my eyes as I look over to him because that's a really bold statement but I know that he means every single word.

"Don't get me wrong, the physical stuff is great," he closes his eyes for a second, "like fucking fantast—"
"Okay dude enough! That's like my little sister."

He laughs as he continues. "What I mean is that it's not about that part, you know?"
"No I don't know," I say. "I've had loads of the physical stuff. I just want the other part," I say lowly.

"Oh you sap."
"Ok Mr. so in love I'm smiling at my fucking phone."
"Whatever dude," he says as he laughs lightly and rolls his eyes.

We've finally walk into our apartment and he sets his stuff down before turning back to the door.
"I'm staying with Adare tonight, night," he tells me as he grabs a water and Adare's cardigan that she left over here.
"See ya," I say as I plop onto the couch.

I try and figure out what movie I wanna watch tonight and I decide on something from Disney.
As I'm scrolling through Disney+ I stop on Bridge to Teribitha and click play. I get about an hour in before I see my phone light up on the arm of the couch and I pick it up.

It's a text from Ameeriah.

Ameeriah Are you busy?

Me What's up?

Ameeriah Ryan won't leave me alone at Rosen library, I would leave but I'm on an online timed exam right now and if I leave I'll lose connection and it won't save my work

He's such a little bitch.
I stand up and head for the door and text her back.

Me What floor are you on?"

Ameeriah 4

I get to the library as quick as I can and take the stairs to get to the floor she's on.
This library is huge so it takes me a second to find her.

I hear some muffled voices from behind a bookshelf in one of the seating areas.
"Can you just leave me alone."
And when I turn the corner I see Ameeriah sitting with her computer plugged in front of her and that asshole standing beside her with his hands on the table.

"Dude very fucking clearly can you can see that doesn't wanna talk to you," I start.
He turns his head to look at me.

There's like no one else in this library so I'm not worried about who's hearing.

"What is this?" He says as he looks back to her. "Did you call him here? Really?"

"Don't look at her, look at me."

"Oh my gosh Ameeriah you are fucking ridiculous, I just want to talk, you didn't have to call your fucking bodyguard to come save you from me."

My blood starts to boil.

I walk over closer to him. "Why the fuck do you think you can talk to her like that? If you don't get the fuck out of this library in the next two seconds, so help me God," I say as I close my eyes for a second. "I will smash your fucking head in."

He throws his hands up and scoffs before he walks away.
Ameeriah just sighs and runs her hands through her hair.
"Thank you," she whispers as she looks back down to her computer and I sit down beside her.

"How long did you say you dated him?"
"All of high school," she sighs.
"Good grief," I sigh.

"I really need to get back to this exam, give me one second."
Her 'one second' was more like forty five minutes.
