It is now March and the mountains have fresh snow.
Last night after most of Gapplebees left, Brynn, Jaxon, Grayson and I stayed again.
We hung out in my car, Brynn my passenger Princess as per usual, Grayson behind her and Jaxon behind me.
Grayson and I got to talking about snowboarding and how I haven't been in two years. So, here we are now at 11am about to head to the mountains because he bought us tickets last night and made me promise I'd go with him.
I hear his car from down the street and make my way outside. My board is laying in the grass and my gear bag is laying next to it on the paved driveway.
He pulls into my driveway behind my infiniti and gets out after opening the trunk for me, "you can put your stuff in there."
He starts to put my board on the roof rack with his and refuses any help from me. As he puts the last clamp down I get into the passenger seat.
"Are you excited," he asks as he backs out of my driveway.
"Very, I've never been to this mountain before but I've always wanted to go."
The 1.5 hour drive is filled with small talk and music. I don't think I stopped smiling the whole way there.
Once we arrive he unloads our boards from the roof rack. I get my gear from the trunk and start to change.
After we're both dressed we grab our boards and head to the outdoor kiosk to scan our passes and receive our badges.
I follow him and he leads us to a green mountain. Then a blue mountain. Unknowingly to me, the third mountain he takes us up is a black Diamond - I have never done a black Diamond before.
"Grayson, you're joking right?"
He gives me a devious smile. "You,ll be fine." He says as he straps into his binders.
"Ohh I'm going to kill you." I say through gritted teeth but genuinely smiling nonetheless.
He holds my hand and pulls me to help me get momentum. Before I know it, he's 50 feet ahead of me.
I do appreciate that no matter what mountain we're on, if I get too far behind or fall he'll stop and wait with no complaints each time.
I make it down the mountain in one piece despite spending a majority of it on my ass.
As per his request, we do the terrain park - something else I'm trying for the first time - so I can get clips of him doing the jumps.
We do another black Diamond, and then the first black Diamond again before I tap out. We're sitting by a fireplace taking a break when I encourage him to do a couple more runs. He hesitantly goes, but leaves me his keys so I can go to the car if I choose.
On my way to the car to change, I call Brynn and tell her about how much fun I'm having and how easy it is being with him. She tries to convince me that it's a date, I disagree because he never made it official and I plan to pay him back.
I end the phonecall, go piss, and head back to the fireplace to wait for Grayson. I shoot him a text checking in and he tells me that he just got off the lift for his last run.
Back at the car, he once again refuses any of my help to get the boards on the roof rack. It's sweet that he's such a gentleman, but this boy is so stubborn.
"GRAYSON!" Coming down the mountain we loose traction and almost crash into the side of it. "Oh my god-"
"What the fuck" he says out of breath.
We look at each other and I burst out laughing.
"I need new tires." He runs his fingers through his medium length dark brown hair in a stressed manner.
"Yeah, ya think?" I chuckle.
A little down the road and I still let the occasional giggle slip out about our near death experience.
"You're never gonna let me live that down, are you?" He smiles as he rolls his eyes.
"Not in a million years."
At my house he unloads my board as I get my gear from the trunk of his car. I place all of my belongings down and he walks over to give me a hug.
"Thank you for today, how much do I owe you?"
"Nothing."
"Grayson, come on. That ticket was expensive."
"Don't worry about it Kiersten. Goodnight," he says smirking as he walks away.
He rolls down his window. "Text me when you're home please."
"Will do." He gives me a half assed salute and backs out of my driveway.
As he goes down my street, he revs his car a couple of times. It's 10pm so I'm sure he's woken some neighbors, oops.
As I gather my things and make my way inside I think about how I really haven't stopped smiling at all today, and it's a great feeling.
