Rudy, Bella, and Jake form a close trio shortly after that strange Friday night.
They rarely spend time apart these days. Always hanging out in Jake's car shop down at the Reservation. Rudy thinks it's the best place to visit. Even when Bella drives them down there in her janky dino truck.
She learns all types of facts about motorcycles and car engines. Jake is extremely passionate about it. She never gets tired of seeing him smile.
Bella seems more and more happy as the weeks go on.
Rudy has found out only recently about Bella's ongoing nightmares. It pains her still to know that Bella is going through this. But the Arizona girl says that her friend is helping them go away.
She decides that's good enough for her to continue on with her mission to make Bella whole again.
If the two brunettes aren't with Jake they're at Bella's place watching sports with Charlie. Something she never thought would happen. Too bad they don't watch the rodeos.
Rudy thinks him to be an odd duck. He doesn't seem to like her any better either. She overheard him once talking to Bella about her attitude. Which isn't all that surprising since
Sometimes he tries to convince Bella to ditch Rudy. Of course, Bella always rejects the idea each time. That surely surprises Rudy despite how close they've become.
She can't help but smile at that.
Tonight is one of her and Bella's typical sleepovers. It's an ongoing thing that they both enjoy. Aunt Jane doesn't seem to mind.
That woman is more than happy to have Rudy out of the house. Rudy started to notice Aunt Jane had begun to collect stuff inside a small closet in the hallway. Stuff meant for Halloween. Which isn't for another three weeks. Such a crazy lady indeed.
"Alright girls, I'm heading up to bed." Charlie Swan huffs loudly from the recliner in the living room before shutting off the TV.
Rudy and Bella are sitting at the kitchen table working on a Spanish worksheet. Her best friend continues to struggle with forming a proper sentence. This is probably one of the only times Rudy is smarter at a subject than her. Perks of being from Texas.
"Goodnight." Both girls shout in unison.
It clearly gives Charlie the creeps. He eyes the girls as he climbs the steps.
Not long after Rudy and Bella finish their homework for the week and decide to head up to bed themselves. Their steps are sluggish after sitting at the table for so long.
"Ugh, it's raining again. Does it ever stop?" Rudy cries out as heavy rain pounds against the roof like a thousand fists.
Bella chuckles as she finishes changing into her pajamas. "Yeah, I don't think so."
