Jake drives down the road that leads to the Cullen house with a deep scowl set on his lips. A troubling feeling of dread had settled into his stomach as soon as Rudy called him. He didn't know what he wanted to believe. At first, Jake thought it was some kind of cosmic joke. Bella pregnant by a vampire? Yeah, no way. That's impossible.
But the way Rudy said it made him rethink it all. Her voice trembled on the other end of the line. She was terrified for Bella. It made Jake drop everything when Rudy asked him if he could come out to see Bella even if he was mad.
Being angry that Bells wanted to be a vampire doesn't even cross his mind as he pulls into the lavish driveway on his homemade motorbike.
The same one she crashed on that one time. Man, Rudy was so angry with them over that. It was so long ago it seems.
The tires blow out smoke like they do in the action movies. He would have thought that to be cool a year ago. Now, he doesn't think like that. Jake is older and more in tune with what supernatural bullshit is around here in Forks.
He sits there on his bike and peers up at the crisp home. He picks at every detail. Each window lets the forest look inside. All the bloodsuckers inside know he's there already.
He hates them all except for Rudy. She would be the only one who would never do wrong in his eyes. Because it was Rudy who kept everyone on their toes. It's like she doesn't even care that she's a vampire.
Jake sighs heavily, silently contemplating if seeing Bella in whatever state she is in is going to be a good thing for his sanity.

"It keeps growing at an alarming rate. Draining her from the inside." Edward sits on the couch next to Bella. A very angry expression is all over his face as he explains this to Jake.
Rudy stands near the piano, leaning her hip against Jasper's shoulder where he sits on the musical instrument's bench. His large hand is wrapped around her thigh. He trails his fingers down the lining of her Western jeans. She's grateful for his touch.
Just being in the same room as him calms her. And it's not because of his gift as most of them come to believe.
"What the hell are you gonna do to stop it?" Jake's nostrils flare slightly. The black leather jacket he wears makes his tan skin glow. As if he were a part of a bike gang.
"Jake," Bella utters softly.
Rudy scoffs at her friend's pleading tone. Which earns her a glare from the bronzed hair vampire who can't seem to remove the stick up his ass.
"Carlisle is doing all that he can." Bella shrugs her thin shoulders. Her dull brown eyes fail to catch Jake's honey gaze.
The wolfman stands at the other end of the room with his back to her. Rudy doesn't know how this is going to play out. Will this ruin their friendship forever? She rather not find out right now.
