Sitting with her arms crossed in Jasper's cherry-red Ford f-150, Rudy silently watches the green trees pass by in a flash. Allowing her mind to be engrossed in this familiar scene. It feels like the first time her aunt drove her into this odd little rainy town.
Her heart races. A bundle of nerves had settled into her stomach the moment Bella told her they needed to get back home before Charlie arrives from his fishing trip.
She didn't really want to leave Jasper's side. Rudy has finally felt at peace after a while of feeling alone and angry. But the blonde vampire assured her he wasn't going to run away at any sign of difficulty.
That's just enough for her to get inside his brand-new truck without any hesitation.
"It was you in the forest that day, wasn't it? And every time after that. I always feel your eyes on me." Rudy bites the bottom of her lip after she asks. A thing that her best friend does often. It only makes sense as to why she does it now. She's going to have to shake that habit.
To concentrate away any awkwardness is physical pain. And poor Rudy is biting down on her lip too hard.
Those nerves now burst inside her chest cavity like living butterflies attacking deadly ants. She doesn't dare tear her attention away from the tall, glorious green pine trees, not yet.
Jasper grips the steering wheel, his knuckles turning an impossible shade of white.
"Yes," He tells her.
"Why?" She can't seem to figure out why.
He smiles slightly. Taking his eyes off the road like it's nothing. Not caring that this suddenly frightens Rudy to where she stares at him with wide grass-colored eyes.
"You posed a clear threat to my family," Jasper says with a flat tone. No hint of amusement in sight.
Rudy gulps. "What do you think of me now?"
The vampire shrugs his shoulders a tad. His eyes no longer looking into hers. She'd be lying if she said the loss of that didn't hurt her just a tad bit. As if avoiding something. She wants to know what.
"I think you're trouble. More than I ever bargained for."
"I'll take that as a wonderful compliment, cowboy."
"Stop calling me that."
"Keep dreaming in that pretty lil' head of yers, cowboy," Rudy smirks big.
The dirt roads begin to pull into more familiar gravel roads. It won't be long until they reach the Swan residence. Rudy doesn't want this calm presence to end.
She then twists around to face him. The heated seat is big enough to consume her entire body, the warm wraps around her limbs like a blanket. Rudy makes sure her entire body faces the vampire she very recently formed a weird connection to.
