Rudy leans into Jasper's chest as her two best friends learn to get along again. His arms wrap around Rudy's waist tightly. She relishes his touch.
The whole scene is just perfect. Nothing is supposed to go wrong. The newest vampire needs this to continue forever. And yet nothing ever goes her way. Why would she ever think the universe would give her a break?
Rosalie struts into the living room with a wide smile. More than happy to help Bella with anything. Rudy isn't sure how that's possible. But she keeps her mouth shut about it. Jasper doesn't like it when she gets angry.
The blonde vampire hands the cup of human blood to Bella. Her pale hand carefully grips the human's elbow. Rudy bites her bottom lip in anticipation. A fleeting feeling enters her gut suddenly.
She shyly pulls Jasper's hands into hers. She wishes that Alice could see anything that's going to happen. However, the fairy-like vampire can still see nothing past the wedding.
It then all happens so fast. The styrofoam cup slips from Bella's fragile hand. Rudy jerks forward but she isn't quick enough. How can she not be quick enough? What is the point of her speed if it's useless?
Her human friend places her hand on Jake's elbow to try and reach down for the fallen blood when a loud crack fills the air.
Dread consumes Rudy's heart as Bella's face contorts with utter pain. A scream breaks through her rosy lips.
Rudy tries to reach for Bella. Her hands jut out, only to be knocked away as Edward rushes to catch his falling wife. A strangled look set angrily upon his face.
Rudy is pulled back across the living room by Jasper. His stone-like arms barricade her behind his back. She tries clawing the back of his blush pink flannel. Though his flesh does not bruise or bleed from her nails.
"What's happenin'?" She cries when she sees Bella hurried away by Edward and Jake. It breaks her heart that she can't go with her. Why couldn't she?
Jasper spins around to gently grip the sides of her face. His dark expression does nothing to ease her rushing mind. She feels like her eyes want to water so badly. But vampires can't cry. She wants to cry.
"Bella's back is broken. They think the baby's coming." Jasper speaks calmly. Pushing his gift onto her. She hates it at this moment.
His mate jerks from the force he uses. His gift is too strong. Rudy clenches her eyes tightly. It's hard not to ignore the jittery sensation that sputtered over her shoulders. Her body wants to welcome the calmness. Though her mind is going to refuse it.
