Forks, Washington is gloomy on this day. It's the start of Spring Break and yet it still offers no real warmth. That pisses Rudy off greatly.
Even though she has grown attached to her highlighter yellow jacket, she now wishes to take it off occasionally. At least long enough to experience the soothing air on her skin.
She sits on a fallen tree out in the forest like always. Her eyes scan the trees. Noting the way the green moss grows in great large patches on their dark brown bark. As if they have small fingers that dig into the trees, hoping to remain there forever.
Various creatures have come out to investigate the human who has dared to trespass onto this whimsical land. A small golden rabbit hops across a small trail left behind by something bigger. At the very far side a white-tailed deer wanders about. Rudy's careful not to spook it with any sudden movements.
The last time she was out here something unnatural had been watching her. With keeping a close eye, she hopes to catch it in the act. But so far she hasn't had any luck.
Still, it's an early Monday morning, there is plenty of the day to go around.
Rudy sighs heavily and reluctantly returns to the log cabin to get dressed. The young woman still can feel a strange pair of eyes on her. Though she's grown used to it.
She chooses a thin white and neon green striped tank and navy boot cuts to go with it. It seems like it will be a nice day to spice it up so she wears a simple gold necklace that holds a butterfly charm.
It doesn't take long to lace up her Converse. No outfit would be complete without her yellow rain jacket. At this point, she would rather die without it. It may sound crazy but it's the truth.
Soon she returns back down the attic and makes her way into the kitchen. There she finds a very distraught Aunt Jane holding onto the landline with a broken face.
Rudy's instantly at her side. "What's the matter?"
Aunt Jane says nothing. Her face is consumed by shock. She shoves the older phone into her niece's hands and slowly backs away and sits down in the living room.
"Hello?" Her voice shakes as she speaks into the phone. Her nerves suddenly bubbled within her.
"Rudy, this is Jake. Bella jumped off a cliff." Her ex-best friend rushes into the phone from the other end of the line. His voice is somehow much darker and huskier than she last remembered.
"What the hell do you mean she jumped off a cliff!?" Rudy screams down the line. Her shaky hands tuck wild hair behind her ear.
Some mumbling on the other end fills her ear for a moment. What's going on?
"She's alive, that's all you need to know," Jake tells her in a strict tone. Well, fuck that!
Rudy scoffs, rolling her suddenly watery eyes. "What the hell is that supposed to mean? Where is she, Jake?"
