Rudy doesn't know what to think, how to feel, why she feels so cold and angry.

Perhaps watching her best friend die during a traumatic birth truly does mess with a person. No matter if they are a vampire or not. And it shall always stick with her for the rest of her immortal life.

She sits in silence on the front steps of the Cullen house. Shutting out whatever is going on out in the back. Rudy hears Edward's rough voice defending Jake for whatever reason that she doesn't care to know.

The vampire grips her hair tightly. Doing her best to keep steady. To keep sane. To keep herself grounded. And yet nothing helps at all.

The front door opens behind her. She smells the smokey scent of Jasper's old flannel before he even sits beside her. His arm instantly wraps around her shoulders. Rudy does not hesitate to shove her face into his neck and huff in defeat.

"I can't see her like that," Rudy says. Her voice drips with such great sorrow.

Jasper sighs, looks beyond his big red truck in the driveway, and shakes his head. His heart is so heavy for his mate before him. Yet again is she faced with utter torment.

"She'll need you. Now more than ever." He tells her. Smoothing down her curly hair with his scared hands.

Rudy snorts in vain. The younger vampire sneers as she suddenly sits up to get a good look at the blonde male at her side.

"She wasn't supposed to be Changed like that. It isn't fair. How am I supposed to look her in the eye when I had to watch her die like that?" Asking this is painful. As if her heart is being pulled apart by deadly claws.

Jasper fails to know what to say or how to answer. His golden eyes droop slightly. But he is going to stay strong for her. Rudy can see that a mile away. She will always be grateful.

"I'm sorry." Rudy rubs her eyes. Trying to get rid of her expression that resembles attitude.

Jasper takes her hands in his once more and smiles the best he can. She loves that smile. The way the side of his mouth lifts higher than the other. It's unique only to him and says that vampires are not always perfect.

He tugs her just a tad bit closer. To really see her. Rudy doesn't seem to mind this one bit. She welcomes his touch like it's hot chocolate on a cold Texas night. Hmm. Those were the days.

"You'll have to face her someday," Jasper tells her and places a kiss on her brow.

Rudy nods her head carefully. Not wanting to lose contact with his lips on her skin. Knowing full well that she will have to come face-to-face with Bella sooner rather than later.

Rudy stands the best she can against the door frame. Awkwardly crossing her arms as she watches Bella and Edward cooe at their newborn child. It is a troubling sight for Rudy. Totally not how she wanted to spend her Sunday afternoon.
