"This is absolutely insane, and that's coming from someone who was raised in Texas!" Rudy whispers harshly into Bella's ear as she hugs the girl firmly. Doing everything to hold onto her best friend forever.
Bella chuckles nervously. Her own chilled breath fans into Rudy's ice-cold ear. Rudy shivers.
"I'll be okay. I've got Jake and Edward with me. Plus, Seth will be headed up there soon." Bella gulps as she eyes her vampire. Not daring to let her eyes linger on his bronze hair any longer than necessary. He is already on edge. They all are.
Rudy scoffs as she pulls away from her. She isn't convinced that this plan to separate the two head bad guys away from the army is a good idea. Can they blame her?
"Bringing that kid into this is a bad idea. Someone's going to get hurt, Bella. Please, we can think of something else." She tries to tell her. She isn't one to usually plead. But this is dangerous.
"No one is going to get hurt. Can't you trust me?" Bella shakes her head and grips Rudy's hands.
The Southern girl frowns deeply. Knowing the group of vampires will arrive tomorrow afternoon in this exact clearing they stand in now is scary. There's going to be such bloodshed. She isn't going to hide that thought.
The entire Cullen family came out to send Bella and Edward off on their journey into the small mountains. Jake is standing off to the side. Waiting to take the lead. His eyes are everywhere but on Bella. Now that isn't unusual for him these days. Something must have happened between the two that Rudy wasn't there to witness. However, it doesn't matter at this point what it is.
"I won't ever trust that Edward will fully keep you safe. He once promised he would never leave you and he did anyway. How am I supposed to believe he'll keep you safe this time? No, I don't buy it." Her lips quiver from a deep source of rage.
Bella's doe eyes droop slightly. As if she recalls those events so many months ago. How she had stayed in bed crying over him. Those months were filled with horrible nightmares. Then she shakes her head and those images are gone in an instant.
She smiles at Rudy then. Not caring that the girl is mad at the world as usual. That's just Rudy.
"I'll see you tomorrow night when this is all over." Bella pulls Rudy in for one last hug.
Rudy doesn't wrap her arms around Bella this time. She is limp in her hold. She watches them walk away with dull eyes. Her heart aching all over again.
Somehow knowing something truly horrible is going to happen tomorrow. Not even Alice Cullen can see it happen. And yet she is supposed to trust these people with Bella's life? What a fucking joke.
