"I'm being serious Saint

"I'm being serious Saint." I spoke up again.

" 'bout what?" He mumbled in response.

"I think we can leave the next day, " I said as he and I continued to walk hand in hand down the sidewalk.

"I don't think that's safe Khalil..." he replied.

"—you getting a c-section, won't you have to heal?" He asked.

Well yes but.

"—I can heal on the road." I frowned.

My main objective was getting my babies out of this city—if I was fortunate enough to give birth and wake up, then I didn't wanna waste any more time in this place.

"I mean yeah but—"

"Saint I just don't want to spend any unnecessary time in this city, we can pack everything up in your truck before I give birth—and then after the process is over, we can hit the road, I shouldn't be out that long." I shook my head.

"I hear you Khalil but listen...that's a lot." He stated in response.

"We gon have two newborn twins, not to mention the fact you're gonna be fresh off the surgery table basically...and then on top of all that... we're driving to Texas." He continued.

"That drive already takes at least two days...and then we're gonna have the babies..." He stated, "You too smart not to see the problem with that."

I sat silent for a couple of moments as I fought for a response, everything he was saying I'd already thought about.

It's just...I was way too eager to get out of here, this whole thing with the baby thief or whatever, and then of course the "purges," this just isn't somewhere I wanted to be really—especially not with kids.

"I do not want to be here with my babies Saint." He reiterated seriously.

" Khalil I'm hearin' you—but listen—"

"No,I'm not." I shook my head, completely disregarding his attempt at a rebuttal.

He blinked at me for a few seconds before shaking his head and embracing the silence.

It was hard to tell whether or not he agreed with me sometimes. When we first met he'd argue, but now for the most part he just let the topic go.

That's not to say I always got what I wanted, most of the time—yeah I did—but for the bigger topics and specifically the higher disagreements...Saint was Saint.

Our morning walk concluded after another ten minutes, it was honestly the highlight of my day, it was peaceful.

This solitude was different than the solitude I experienced when cooped up in the house.

That was lonely, at least on our walks I got to move around and enjoy nature.

"—we're going to wait a week for you to heal up, and then we'll start driving," Saint stated randomly, just as we approached the house.
