After a couple more minutes of driving, Saint came to a stop in some downtown area of the neighboring city, which, of course—looked ten times better than Sidon.
I'd been cooped up in that hell hole of a town for so long that being outside the city felt like a culture shock.
Once Saint parked in the garage and we could start walking, I found myself breathless at how different the outside world looked.
Only a couple months in Sidon and I'd already forgotten what it felt like to not live in a third-world city.
"It's so pretty down here," I spoke, eyeing all the holiday decorations they had out.
"you like it?" Saint questioned from beside me.
"love it, you've been here before?" I asked.
"Yeah, a couple times." he told me, "in the beginning when I planned on leaving Sidon—this was my next option."
"Why didn't you?" I asked.
"couldn't find a job." He shrugged.
Before I could question any further, I felt his hand on the small of my back, halting my movement as we approached what looked like a small restaurant.
"we goin' here first." He stated.
With a smile I nodded and watched as he approached the door so he could open it, prompting me to walk through.
