Ocean Jasper woke up and looked around, finding himself in an unfamiliar place filled with rocks and countless holes of various shapes and sizes, evidence of something that happened years ago. He tried to walk but immediately fell flat on his face.

"PIGSY, HE WOKE UP! HE WOKE UP!" A loud voice shouted, hurting Jasper’s ears. He looked up to see a pink figure and a white one, the latter appearing from a flash of light.

"Hmm, so he’s awake. Hello, my name is Tang, the Pearl. Your name is Monkie Kid, or MK for short," the Pearl said as he helped MK stand up.

"Why do I hear so many voices?" MK asked as the pink figure led him through a safe path, back to where they had come from.

"I’m not sure, but we’ll do our best to explain it to you. Oh, and the Pink Spinel is Pigsy," Tang said as they finally reached a large blue pad on the ground. All three of them stepped onto the pad, and a blue light enveloped them, transporting them to a building of some sort.

After a few hours of explaining what had happened, it came down to this: Ao Lie, the White Horse Jade Dragon Prince of the West, had sacrificed his physical form to create the first human-gem hybrid named Mei. Mei could still summon the Dragon Sword to help her in fights, but she was only 6 months old at the moment. Tang and Pigsy reassured MK that they could teach him everything they knew in about 13 years.

19 years passed. MK and Mei had grown up as siblings, with Pigsy and Tang always teaching them right from wrong. Sandy, another gem, owned a boat, and they had a cat named Mo. The four of them often went on missions, except for MK, whose powers hadn’t manifested yet. The others had gained their powers almost immediately, so everyone wondered what was wrong with MK. Perhaps the weight of being the great Qi, a leader so powerful he could never be shattered, was too much for him.

One day, MK, Mei, and Bloodstone—a fusion of Tang and Pigsy—were out on the beach, fighting a creature as usual. MK stayed behind at the base, feeling useless. It was as if someone else was speaking to him.

"Why is it that they get to have all the fun? C'mon, show them what you’re made of."

The voice stopped, and the creature suddenly noticed MK, charging toward him. MK reached for his gem and, in a moment of desperation, pulled out a red staff. He threw the staff at the creature, hitting its head and pinning it to the ground. The creature then poofed into a gem.

Bloodstone quickly ran up to the poofed gem, encased it in a bubble, and then looked at the staff in MK’s hands, clearly surprised. Bloodstone defused, revealing Tang and Pigsy.

"WHAT THE HELL? COULD YOU HAVE DONE THAT THIS ENTIRE TIME?" Pigsy yelled as he rushed over to MK. But Tang stopped him.

"Pigsy, we should be proud. I mean, it's his first weapon," Tang said as Mei tried to pick up the staff but couldn’t. MK walked over and effortlessly lifted the staff himself.
