“You little bitch, GIVE US BACK OUR FRIEND!” Pigsy yelled, charging at the shadow. Tang held him back while Sandy positioned herself in front of Mei. Sun Wukung sat calmly, holding the diamond and moonstone in separate bubbles, watching intently.

“Oh no, you can’t just cuss. Besides, it’s a fair trade—one gem for another,” the one-eyed shadow said, bouncing the oddly shaped ametrine from one hand to the other.

“Alright, fine, you’ve got a deal,” Mei said decisively, grabbing the yellow bubble and walking toward the shadow.

“Finally, someone with a brain,” the shadow commented, as Mei approached and held up the bubble. The shadow quickly handed over the ametrine and took the yellow bubble in return. “Thank you for making the deal, Ao Lie. Also, you might want to keep that diamond away from the ametrine and give the ametrine some proper therapy while you’re at it.” With that, the shadow vanished into the darkness, taking the bubble with it.

“Mei, that wasn’t part of the plan,” Monkey King said, holding the purple bubble containing the flame diamond.

“I don’t care; I got my best friend back. Besides, he wouldn’t have given me a fake,” Mei said, staring at the oddly shaped ametrine, now nestled in a blanket-like nest on the table.

“But Macaque is dangerous, and now he has a physical form,” Sun Wukung pointed out, as the others busied themselves in the kitchen preparing MK’s favorite foods.

“Okay, so MK must have been in pain being fused with someone like Red Son who betrayed us and used us,” Mei said, slamming her fist onto the table, causing a crack. Tang hurried over and carefully lifted MK’s gem off the table.

“Mei, be careful. You and I both know you can’t fix a gem that shatters,” Tang said, his tone firm but gentle. Monkey King watched with curiosity but remained silent.

“Sorry, Tang. I’m just so mad at that stupid diamond,” Mei said, sitting down with a pout as Tang gently returned the yellowish-purplish gem to its nest.

“So, we just have to wait for him to reform?” Monkey King asked. As soon as he spoke, the gem began to float, growing and transforming. MK’s new form emerged: brown hair spiked up and held back by a red headband, gray skin, golden eyes, and only two arms. He wore an orange jacket over a white tee and blue jeans.

Everyone, except Monkey King, rushed to MK and enveloped him in a group hug. Tears streamed down their faces as MK whispered, “I am so sorry.” After the hug, Pigsy went to fetch MK’s favorite food from the kitchen. MK looked around, then focused on the sunstone.

“Wait a minute, who are you?” MK asked, noticing Sun Wukung.

“Oh, MK, this is Sun Wukung. I forgot to mention that,” Tang said.

MK’s jaw dropped. “Red Son was right about the escape,” he whispered, causing Mei to look confused but not caring much at the moment. She was just grateful to have her best friend back. The five gems gathered around the table, discussing their recent experiences, but MK felt a pang of unease. He glanced at the spot where he first saw Wukung sitting and noticed the red diamond in the purple bubble.
