“So what you’re saying is a Pink Gem is probably looking for us and was sent by Iron Fan?” Pigsy asked as Mk and Mei retold him what happened. Tang was sitting on a barstool next to the kitchen counter, Sandy was lounging on the couch, and Wukong was perched on top of the couch’s backrest.
“Yeah, he said his name was Ne Zha,” Mk replied. Wukong jumped off the couch with excitement.
“Oh, Little Pink Emerald! I haven’t seen him since…” Wukong trailed off, shaking his head. “Oh, I can’t wait to see him again!” he exclaimed, his tail swaying energetically. Pigsy, however, looked less than thrilled.
“What do you mean? Look, if you want to get into trouble, be my guest, but leave the kids out of this,” Pigsy warned, glaring at Wukong, who nodded quickly and started heading for the door.
“Yep, yeah, sounds good,” Wukong muttered repeatedly as he hurried out of the house.
“Now, Mk, go get some… huh?” Pigsy’s voice trailed off in confusion as he realized Mk was no longer there.
“Oh, Wukong took him,” Tang said casually, slurping on his noodles.
---
“Are you sure about this?” Mk asked as he followed Wukong, with Mei trailing behind them.
“Pfft, of course! Me and him go way back,” Wukong said confidently as they reached the town. “Now we just need to find him.”
“Monkey King, are you sure you should be so buddy-buddy with him?” Mei asked, concerned. Wukong flicked his wrist dismissively.
“I just want to introduce Ne Zha to you guys,” Wukong replied, unaware that Ne Zha had already heard him. A golden spear with a long red handle suddenly flew past Wukong’s face. While Wukong remained unfazed, both Mei and Mk jumped back in shock.
Wukong turned to the alley where the spear came from. “Oh, Ne Zha, my old friend! What’s it been… umm?” Wukong said in his usual carefree tone as Ne Zha stepped out, wheels of pink flames hovering behind his legs.
“Wukong, I am not your friend,” Ne Zha replied coldly, making Wukong’s face fall slightly.
“Oh, c’mon, I know it’s been a while, but—” Wukong started, only for Ne Zha to cut him off, clearly tired of his antics. But then Ne Zha’s gaze fell on Mk’s gem.
“Qi Xiaotian?” Ne Zha asked, his tone curious as he had never seen the Great Eclipse Warrior before.
“Look, maybe we can hang out! I know a good place on Earth—” Wukong suggested before catching Ne Zha’s spear mid-sentence.
“Wukong, you are an enemy of the Empire. You should have kept Qi Xiaotian as a fusion and not brought that into the world as a Zaxvin just to clear you of your sins,” Ne Zha said sternly. His ribbon wrapped around Wukong’s wrist and flung him toward a nearby closed store.
Ne Zha then turned his attention to Mk, noticing that Mei had already fled the scene. “I don’t blame you for his sins, but the other gems will,” Ne Zha said before his wheels ignited, propelling him off before Wukong could get back up.
Wukong quickly recovered and rushed over to Mk. “Hey bud, you good?” Wukong asked, concern evident in his voice. Mk nodded, though clearly shaken. Wukong, undeterred, continued his hunt, now leading Mk into the forest with Mk right behind him.
“So… are you my dad?” Mk suddenly asked, causing Wukong to stop in his tracks. The distant hum of Ne Zha’s wheels was faint but present.
“Well… kind of. Look, it’s a long story,” Wukong began, clearly reluctant to dive into the past.
“But Red Son told me the story of how you shattered Macaque,” Mk said, trying to piece things together. Wukong’s demeanor shifted instantly.
“THAT WAS AN ACCIDENT!” Wukong snapped, his voice low but filled with a mix of anger and pain. “I’m sorry, but I see where this is going. You do have mine and Macaque’s original gems combined. My gem right now is still unshatterable, but…” Wukong sighed deeply, turning to face Mk fully. “But you’re not me, and you’re definitely not Macaque. You make your own path,” Wukong said, placing his hands on Mk’s shoulders for emphasis.
Before Mk could respond, a spear shot out from the trees, with Ne Zha’s red ribbon trailing behind it. “Wukong, be lucky I need your help,” Ne Zha said as he gracefully backflipped from a tree branch. The ribbon retrieved the spear from the tree and brought it back to Ne Zha.
“I’m looking for the Spider Queen. She was the Green Spiderweb Jasper sent here to end organic life. Where is she?” Ne Zha demanded, his ribbon now coiled around Mk.
Wukong smirked, “Well, last I saw her, she was bubbled and shattered.”
Ne Zha’s eyes widened in shock, but Wukong quickly corrected himself, laughing. “Oh no, not shattered, but she was bubbled and hidden somewhere,” Wukong said nonchalantly.
Ne Zha’s expression hardened as he tightened his grip on Mk. “WHERE?” he demanded furiously.
Wukong shrugged, “Pfft, like I know. That was centuries ago—heck, it was centuries before I was trapped in the moon.”
Ne Zha growled in frustration but eventually released Mk from his ribbon’s grasp. “Fine then, I will find her alone. But know this: she’ll be after you, so you can serve as bait,” Ne Zha said before taking off into the sky.
Wukong flicked his wrist, still smiling. “Alright, hey, Mk, go tell the others,” he instructed. Mk nodded and hurried back to the house to relay the information, unaware that the Spiderweb Jasper gem had been watching them from the shadows the entire time.
