Chapter 16

The day went by quickly, and school was soon over. The car ride with Mr. Horan was awkward, but Niall seemed to forget about the whole thing. I, on the other hand, am quite stubborn. He dropped us off in front of our houses and drove off.

"Thanks for helping me with the makeup," Niall said to me, referencing his eye.

"No problem," I said. We started walking to his door. He was working the lock with his keys and then the door opened.

"Do you want something to eat?" he asked, dropping his backpack in the den and going into the kitchen.

"Duh," I responded, joining him. He grabbed some crackers and sliced salami and I got us some iced tea. "Did Gregg talk to your dad about the audition yet?"

After the incident, Niall asked Gregg to talk to his dad about letting him audition. Niall trusted that maybe Gregg could convince him. I told him to at least give it a shot. And even if his father disagreed with his auditioning, I was going to make sure Niall went to that audition anyway. Even though part of me still wanted him to stay and never leave, I wasn't going to be selfish.

"I asked Gregg to talk to him yesterday, but I don't know if he did yet," he said, trying to open the cracker box.

"He's still going to drive you there no matter what, right?" I asked for assurance.

"Yeah, of course," he said.

"Did you figure out what you want to sing for the audition?"

"Still have no idea," he said honestly.

"I'm sure you'll figure it out, you have plenty of time," I said, preparing a salami cracker.

We quickly shoved them into each others faces, laughing as we did so. We were soon out of crackers, which meant it was time to start our homework. As we walked over to the den, he wrapped one of his arms around my waist.

He sat me down next to him on the couch and pecked my cheek, "Are you sure you're okay with my audition? You've been a bit uneasy on the subject."

I knew what he was talking about, I had been a bit uneasy ever since I had imagined him with Blake Lively and me with Connor. I knew that I didn't want him to leave me stranded, forgetting I existed. However, I didn't want him to know I was feeling clingy.

"No, no, I'm fine," I said, pulling our trig homework out of my bag.

He pulled my attention off of the worksheet and onto him, "Kennedy, tell me what you're really thinking." He put his arm around my shoulders, holding me close to his chest.

"Well, the other night," I began to tell him about my nightmare, and how I was afraid we would lose contact. I told him everything, from my age to how successful everyone was, to his life and finally to the date. Niall watched me intently as I described what happened. As I was talking, his expression went from worried to soft. He listened to my nightmare, absorbing the images I had seen. Once I finished, his face stayed emotionless. He tightly hugged me, wrapping his arms around my torso.

"Kennedy," he said softly, "that is never going to happen. I would never forget about you." I felt my eyes begin to water, and Niall held me closer.

"I know, it just scared me. I'm usually not like this," I said, wiping a fallen tear from my eye.

"Don't be scared," he whispered to me. He put his face down to mine, leaving a kiss on my lips. "Even if we did lose contact, boys would be all over you in a heart beat!" he said encouragingly.

"But I don't want the other boys," I said softly. There was a long silence before Niall replied again.

"I'm just lucky," he started, "lucky that you fell for me of all people."

"Niall James Horan, if anyone is lucky it's me," I said, looking up at him.

"Nuh uh, it's me. And I'll tell you why."

"Because you snatched me up before anyone else could?" I joked.

"That's a reason," he laughed, "if it weren't for that dinner your aunt set up, we wouldn't have met until that car ride to school. And we wouldn't have already gone on a date."

"It takes two to tango, mister," I said, kissing his nose, "I'm lucky I have such a cute, charming neighbor." His arms had slowly slid off of my shoulders, but quickly tightened again.

"Cute and charming, huh?" he said squeezing me. I laughed as he started to kiss my neck.

"Yes, I t'was smitten when I first saw thee," I said, speaking like Shakespeare.

He pulled me close to him, and kissed me. He kissed me for what seemed like ten minutes, bodies close.

"I fell hard when I saw you, too," he said into my eyes. I blushed at his kindness, then kissing his cheek.

"I'm still hungry," I said, standing up, "do you want something?"

"There are some chips on the counter and some dip in the fridge," he called as I was half way to the kitchen. Just as I grabbed the dip, Niall's phone began to ring.

"Who is it?" I said, entering the den.

"Hey Gregg, what's up?" Niall said as he answered the phone. "Really? I'm with Kennedy, is it okay if I put you on speaker?"

Niall set the phone on the coffee table, "Hey Kennedy!"

"Hey Gregg, what's up?" I asked.

"So, I spoke to Dad about the audition," Gregg started, "we spoke for like an hour."

"And?" Niall said, obviously anxious.

"I got him to say yes," Gregg finally said.

Niall and I cheered in excitement. We found ourselves standing, and quickly in an embrace. I put his face in my hands, whispering to him, "I'm so happy for you." He kissed me as we both rushed with excitement.

"Hello?" Gregg asked. We had completely forgotten we were on the phone.

"Sorry Gregg," Niall apologized, "we're still here."

"But he did have one condition, and that was that you have to keep your grades to at least a B average," Gregg stated.

"That's not so bad," I said to Niall.

"He's got himself a deal," Niall said confidently.

"And you're doing the dishes for two weeks, because I'm such an amazing brother," Gregg added.

"Gregg, you're such a butt-head," Niall said laughing. I giggled at their banter.

"I know, well, I've got to go to class now, talk to you later," Gregg said. He hung up the phone and I let out another squeal. I hugged him tightly, kissing his neck.

"I'm so excited for you! I'm so glad your dad is on board with this!" I exclaimed.

"I'm excited too," he said hugging me tightly.

Our faces were then in front of each others', and he stared deep into my eyes. He kissed me passionately, rolling on top of me. I ran my fingers down from his hair and onto his back.

"I'm going to miss this when I'm gone," he whispered to me.
