Chapter 36

We arrived in Sacramento at 5:30 in the afternoon. The flight was long, I spent most of the time sleeping or listening to music. I felt myself getting more nervous once we landed. We all hurried to the baggage claim and found our distinct suit cases. I picked up my phone from my carry on, remembering I promised someone I woud call.

"Hello?" I heard a sleepy Niall answer the phone.

"Did I wake you? I'm sorry, I thought it would go to voicemail," I apologized.

"It's fine, love, you landed?" he asked.

"Yeah, we just got to Sacramento. We're going to drop off Emily and Mackenzie and then my mother and I are heading to the hospital," I informed him.

"That's good to hear, I hope she's OK," Niall said, referencing to Aimee.

"Me too, I'll call you after we visit the hospital," I promised him, "Are the boys and Eleanor still there?"

"Yeah, Eleanor and Louis are leaving tomorrow and the rest of the boys are going back the day after," Niall told me.

"Alright, get some rest love, I'll call you later," I told him.

"Love you."

"Love you too." I hung up the phone and put it back in bag. We started making our way to the parking lot where our father was waiting with the car.

"Niall really likes you, doesn't he," my mother said to me as we walked behind Emily and Mackenzie.

"I think it's a bit more than that," I said, smiling.

"I knew this would happen, when I saw the way he looked at you the first time we met the Horan's, I knew you two would fall head over heels for each other," my mother said to me.

"He's special," was the only response I had. We finally found my dad's car and piled our things in the trunk.

We quickly got in the car and my mother started the interrogation, "What do you know? How is she?"

"The doctors won't let me see her, but they say she's alive," he informed. He drove quickly and dropped off Mackenzie and Emily at their houses. We said our goobye's and I promised to call them. Dad then sped off to the hospital. I was about to jump out of the car when we arrived in the parking lot. My mother and I ran into the hospital.

"We need to see Aimee Richards," my mother told the lady at the front desk, "I'm her mother."

"Name?" the nurse asked.

"Susan Lester," she quickly responded.

"You would like to see the doctor?" Mother nodded rapidly in response. "Follow me, if it's alright, your other daughter needs to stay in the waiting room. He's only taking one at a time." Mother hugged me and followed the nurse to the room. I sat next to my father and waited. I felt myself drift to sleep on his shoulder.

My father and I rushed into Aimee's room to see my conscious, breathing sister resting on the hospital bed. I had slept with Dad in the waiting room for about fourteen hours, waiting on the doctors and waiting on Mother. It was 7:38AM when she came back into the waiting room and announced we could finally see her.

"We finished up the surgery and the stitching, she is completely healthy, all organs seem to be in check. She has minimal memory loss, she can't remember what happened the day of the accident. We're going to keep her here for another week, just to make sure nothing goes wrong and to keep her resting, and we're going to keep her on these pain killers for about a month," the doctor informed my parents as we watched the dizzy girl. "I'll give you some privacy."
