Chapter 42 ~ Kennedy's POV

After Dad's second appointment with Doctor Goodman, he said my mother, Aimee and I would have to stay a bit longer because if a person is surrounded by a happy family then they will get better faster. I honestly would do anything to make sure my dad was healthy again. I went with my dad to the appointment because he admitted he doesn't like going alone, which was fine with me. The doctor put him on new medication that is starting to help him, he already said he feels so much better.

As of Aimee, she's just doing great. All of her friends think her new prostheitc is so cool and not at all gross. After she came home from the hospital, Mom made her go to a support group for amputee's to see how they went through post-surgery depression. Aimee met a boy there, who also has a prosethic leg, named James. She even invited him over for dinner, he's a sweet heart. I'm glad Aimee is happy with herself and her life, it's like her hapiness radiates to every member of the family.

After the appointment, my dad thoughtfully dropped me off at Derek's. Emily and Mackenzie have been asking a lot where I've been, and I just tell them I'm spending time with my dad. They'd kill me if they found out I was with Derek, but it's my decision, not theirs.

I knocked on the door and just walked in. I've come to his house so often that his mom doesn't mind if I walk right in, "Hey Derek!" He walked in from the kitchen in just sweatpants, his toned muscles driving me crazy. He had a cookie in his mouth and he smiled at me in the doorway. I walked over to him, placing a kiss on his cheek and sitting down at the kitchen table.

"Hey babe, how was the appointment?" he asked me after swallowing the food. He grabbed me a glass of milk and sat back down.

"It went well, the doctor said we'll have to stay in Cali longer for my dad. Doc says he's getting better," I informed him, grabbing a cookie as well. Snickerdoodles, yum.

"That's good to hear," he smiled at me.

"Yeah, and I get to spend more time with you," I said, leaning over the table and kissing him lightly. He was surprised, but kissed me back.

"I know you just broke up with Niall, and you're going through a tough time," Derek started.

"I'm not going through anything," I said, shrugging it off, "I'm perfectly fine."

"Kennedy," he said to me, "you were dating that boy for a pretty long time, it was obvious you were in love--"

I cut him off before he could continue, "Derek I'm fine, I'm over it." I said it like it were obvious, but in reality I was dying inside. All I wanted to do was cry in my room and never come out, but that's not what people do when they want to move on. When people want to move on, they move on. "I'd love to be your girlfriend, if that's where you were going."

"Well that was easy," he said, dipping another cookie in his milk. We finished off the cookies and went to sit on his couch. He put in a romantic comedy and sat next to me, putting his arm around my shoulders. As the movie went on, all I wanted to do was kiss him. I could tell he was enjoying the movie, so I didn't want to disrupt it or something, but I really wanted to kiss him. So I did.

I collided my lips with his, and he was very caught off guard. His eyes fluttered closed as he brought his hand to my cheek, cupping it lightly. I picked myself up, my legs straddeling his hips. Our kiss became heated quickly as he tried to decrease the space between us as much as possible. I don't know what came over me, this sudden urge. I guess it was a good distraction. I ran my fingers through his black hair, tugging it lightly. A moan escaped the back of his throat. I rolled my hips onto his and feel myself moan.

"Would you like to go upstairs?" he asked me and I nodded. He lifted me up, cupping underneath my thighs as my legs were wrapped around his waist. I continued to kiss his neck as he carried me up the stairs. He threw me on the bed and kissed me down to my chest, pulling my top off. As we both started to undress eachother, I started to get cold feet.
