Chapter-2
Author's POV
The Northern STATES.
Inside the living room of a single-storied house, the middle-aged man, who was almost in his fifties, was spotted reading the newspaper. The spectacles not so loosely clutching his nose bridge and his scrutinizing gaze only meant that there was something important in the newspaper, like a piece of breaking news. But he wasn't reading the first page, it must be the fifth or sixth page already. He is a very keen reader.
He stopped reading for a second and turned his head towards his right and looked at the oval-shaped wall clock. It was Eight in the morning.
Sighing, he folded the paper neatly and placed it on the small coffee table beside him.
The slight wrinkles on his face, and light grey hairs here and there showed the ageing signs. He is hitting his fifties soon.
" Rose....Rose..." he called, his voice gentle yet held the hint of reminder.
" Yes pappa....!" a beautiful smile appeared on his lips as soon as he heard the chirpy voice of his beloved daughter.
His brown eyes travelled towards the corner room and there came his beautiful daughter, running towards him, all smiling.
" My beautiful princess" he pecked her forehead as she hugged him.
Pulling out from the warm hug, he looked into her beautiful blue eyes. Her eyes are just like her mother's. Light Blue.
Rose looked at her father and then at the newspaper which was placed on the table, neatly folded almost like no one touched it before.
" Mr. Matthew....? You read it already...?" she arched her brows at him playfully.
He nodded, giggling.
She never liked reading a newspaper. She also disliked reading syllabus books, not the romance stories!!. She preferred arts and paintings.
Her father, however, always preferred reading a newspaper. As much as she knew it was a good habit, she made fun of him for re-reading the newspaper again and again!
She shook her head and made goofy faces, walking towards the kitchen.
" Rose....?" sitting on the brown-coloured couch, he called.
" Yes Papa..." she responded, brewing coffee for both of them.
Oh, yeah! She liked nope, she loved coffee.
" When you go out with your friends later, be careful of the surroundings..." he was concerned.
Rose poured the coffee for the two of them and sat on the single couch.
" What happened Papa?" she asked.
Matthew sighed pushing his spectacles back.
" Avoid going near 'Central Mall'..." he said.
Looking at her daughter's confused face,
" This state is ruled by two powerful families. They are sworn enemies... Every year during this time they'll create chaos in the country." he leaned back on the couch, sighing in discontent.
Rose was listening to him carefully.
" Our country is divided into two....the Northern States and the Southern.
Since Central Mall is situated in the centre of the country... both the families have control over that part," he explained.
