Chapter-104

Author's POV

Chase opened his eyes weakly. Blinking his eyes a few times, he adjusted to the dim light in the dark room.

He assessed his body. He was still half naked but now, he was tied up to the chair. His naked chest was covered with several bandages. His eyes stuck on the left side of his chest. A weak smile made its way looking at the unharmed tattoo.

Sighing in relief, he looked towards the door. He didn't know what time it was. He knew, Donovan would come today as he didn't torture him yesterday. Although his wounds were treated, the pain was still fresh. Every part of his body hurt.

His eyes flickered towards his kneecaps. A big red bruise settled on his skin. He realised why he was tied up to the chair. When Felix hammered his knee, two of his bones were broken.

He was least bothered about the pain now. All that mattered was her. His Rose. His love.

He wondered how she was now. Before Donovan marched out of the basement, she was bleeding profusely.

He felt like a loser for not being able to help her, hold her in his arms and protect her. That girl suffered a lot more than she should've been.

He silently prayed for her well-being.

He closed his eyes, and a lone tear escaped from the corner of his eyes, rolling down his cheeks. He yearned to hold her....for one last time.

It might be his last day....who knows what's going on in Donovan's mind? Whatever it is, he will die in peace if he gets a chance to hold her again. It'd be even better for him if he died in her arms.

The walk to the basement was unusually long. Both of them were walking slowly, fingers intertwined, and their steps were synching.

No words were exchanged. The silence wasn't just uncomfortable. It was killing.

He was holding her gently yet firmly. He was afraid that the moment he loosened his grip on her hands, she would disappear into thin air.

He didn't want that. He didn't want to let her go.

She looked at the metal gate. Something stopped her from stepping inside. She gulped the fear forming in her throat. A subtle squeeze caught her attention. She looked towards her left, somehow she nodded looking at him.

So many things were going through her head. She was feeling so many emotions.

A low shriek fled her lips as she walked inside the basement. It was attached to her trauma now.

She looked at Donovan. Their eyes met, this time there was only pain in both of their eyes.

Her baby blue eyes turned hazy, and so did his green eyes. She wanted to say something...but her lips quailed.. nothing came out of her lips. Sighing, she looked down.

Tears fell on their intertwined hands. Donovan gritted his teeth, squeezing her left hand tightly.

She wriggled her hands out of his hold. Donovan wasn't ready to let go of her hand. But the way she was wiggling, struggling...made him leave.

She looked at Chase who was already looking at her with hurt-filled eyes.

His heart ached in pain seeing her looking at someone with so many emotions. Instead of feeling jealous, he loathed himself for not treating her right when she was with him.

Remorse washed over his face. He swallowed the lump and smiled, trying to act fine.

Rose was no fool. She was an expert at faking an 'I'm fine' kinda smile. She felt a tug in her heart. She was two steps away from him.
