Third Person POV

From [Y/N]'s journal ~

January 13th, 1917

It's been almost a week since I returned to Russia. Despite the war I'm almost completely happy... As I knew already, Empress Alexandra,Olga and Tatiana are helping in the hospital as the Sisters of Mercy. Carla joined them, as well... I wanted to, but the tsar said it's not so good idea... His Majesty and Alexei are going to Stavka tomorrow... I'm very worried...
But enough of complaining.
It turns out, everything has a bright side. Finally I won't be the only one to be teased about a boy! I think Olga likes one of the soldiers that she helped... She won't say out loud, but the way she smiles, talking about that " Mitya" ... I think Nastya also noticed. " She smiles the same way you do, when you talk about Alyosha." She said. She really never misses an opportunity to tease me, even worse, she and Carla joined forces in it!
A propos Carla, I think she caught someone's I as well... She told me herself. It's quite strange to me, to be so direct with feelings... But it's good not to be in denial...

She closed the journal with a small sigh and looked out the window.
Someone knocked at the door.
" Come in..."
A person who came in was a friend of the same servant girl who told Nicholas about Antoni, the village doctor, who later saved [Y/N]'s life.

This girl was Polish and her name was Hanna, but her parents diminutevly called her " Hania". She was around Carla's age. Maybe a little younger...
" I brought some tea..." The girl said quietly. [Y/N] smiled at her gently. She knew that Hanna was very reserved and shy. She wanted this girl to feel at least a little more comfortable....
" Thank you very much... Would you like to share it with me?"
" Oh, but I shouldn't...
" I insist."
" If you say so, ma'am..."

" So...?" [Y/N] started. " Can you tell me  what bothers you?"
Hanna shook her head and tears appeared in her eyes." You'll think bad about me...!"
" Why would I do that?"
" Because... Because I want Russia to lose!" She looked down as if she was confessing some very shameful deeds... [Y/N] however didn't get mad as the servant expected her to. Instead, she just asked calmly:
" Why so?"
" Because... Because then we could win! And- And Poland will be on the map of the world again! And we will be independent!" After more than 100 years, we could be free again! I know, it's terrible what I say, but I'm glad that war broke out! This maybe our chance...!
Suddenly someone ran into the room.
It was some young man. Hanna seemed to know him.
" Jan?! Co ty tutaj robisz?!"* She screamed in surprise.
" Wszedłem tylnym wejściem.. Boże drogi, to straszne!"*The man sounded like he was about to cry. [Y/N] didn't understand a word from what he was saying, but knew, it was something very serious.
" Ale, co się stało?!*" Hanna was clearly, still very confused.
" Panienko... Dom spalili! "* The man broke down into sobbing as Hanna went completely pale on the face...
" Co?! Jak?! Kiedy?!*" She asked frantically as the man shook his head.
" Godzinę temu... może mniej....!*
" A moja matka?! Moja siostra?! Co z nimi?!*
" Nie wiem... Nie widziałem ich!*

[Y/N] felt her heart breaking as she saw the sorry remains of what was once a house. What was once Hanna's home. But it wasn't the worst. On the ground, there layed two things. A sooted shawl and a small doll made of rags... The only things that somehow escaped from the fire.
" Oh, God..." [Y/N] whispered. She knew what happened but her mind refused to accept that..."

" I want to show you something." Hanna's voice was raspy from so many tears.
" Maybe you'd prefer to..." [Y/N] started softly, but the girl cut into the sentence. " Please... Maybe then... You'll understand."
" OK..."
