Chapter Twenty Seven: Slytherin Sorting

---

Cali's smile widened as she caught sight of Regulus walking in front of her on the way to the Great Hall. His shoulders were slumped, eyes glued on the floor as she rushed towards the boy. "Regulus," Her smile was wide, her blue eyes trying to catch his grey one's desperately.

"Cali," Regulus hummed, his eyes wide as he finally made eye contact. His shoulders tensed and she watched as he clenched his fist which confused her. "If you don't want to be my friend, you should probably just say it now."

Cali sighed, finally understanding that this was an attempt to brace himself. "Regulus, you're so stupid. I swear to Merlin," Cali finally said, rolling her eyes at the boy. "No wonder why you're not a Ravenclaw."

"What?"

"Regulus, I've told you countless times now that I don't care what house you're in. I know you; your house doesn't suddenly change who you are to me. Your tie being green doesn't change how kind and understanding you are, doesn't change how much you care about your brother. You're still you and your house doesn't change anything."

"But we're not in the same house," Regulus argued.

"I'm sorry, Reg. But did you really see yourself getting sorted into Hufflepuff? Because I surely didn't. I've said it once and I'll say it again. I didn't care what house you were in. Sirius is a Gryffindor and we're still friends."

"But I'm a Slytherin," Regulus tried once.

"So was Merlin! And he's one of the coolest people ever. He's known by muggles and wizards alike, he's that freaking cool," Cali laughed. "You made it into the house of Merlin and that's awesome."

"So, you really don't care that I'm a Slytherin?"

"Wow, nobody told me it took so long for Slytherins to comprehend things," Cali laughed.

"I was really hoping we'd be in the same house," Regulus admitted.

"It surely would have been cool," Cali agreed.

"We'll never see each other," Regulus muttered.

"We're not in the same year anyways, it's not like we'd share classes."

"But we would have been able to sit together during meals."

"We could do that anyways, there's no rules stopping us from sitting at each other's tables."

Regulus smiled, "So how do you not get lost around here?"

"Greta, John, and I spent a lot of weekends exploring our routes so that we could memorize them," Cali laughed, remembering the many times that they had gotten lost over the years. "Until then, follow everyone and never get left alone anywhere."

"I don't have any friends yet," Regulus admitted.

"You've been at Hogwarts for less than a day. And besides, you have me."

"Can we explore Hogwarts this weekend?" Regulus asked, ignoring her previous statement.

"Of course," Cali laughed. "I'd be honored."

They walked in silence for a few minutes before Regulus sighed. "Are you okay?" Cali questioned, her voice laced in concern.

Regulus sighed once more, "It's Sirius."

"What about him?"

"I betrayed him," Regulus admitted.

"How so?"
