The Kind Hufflepuff - First Year
Chapter Twenty Three: Glisseo
---
The Hufflepuff trio laid under the shade of the billowing tree as Cali laid in John's lap and Greta laid in Cali's. Around them were fifth years who were finally taking the chance to breath after the end of their OWLS and seventh years who appeared to be saying goodbye to people, taking their chance to speak to those that they may never see again. A Ravenclaw couple had gotten engaged earlier in their day, talking these grand plans about what their future would be and there was a constant buzz about the beautiful couple. The younger years were simply taking another chance to breath in the Hogwarts air, many of them swearing that the air felt like magic while muggleborns took in some of their last moments of being able to use magic freely until the end of summer.
"It feels like we just started at Hogwarts," Cali breathed, staring at the green foliage above her despite the sun that peeked through. "Like it was yesterday that we were out on the lake, waiting to see the castle for the very first time," She continued after a moment.
"I can't believe I've only known about magic for a year," Greta mumbled. "Like, it feels like it's everywhere and like it's always been around. I'm going to miss using my wand this summer," Greta explained quietly.
"Maybe you can come visit me," John chimed in as Greta leaned up to look at the boy.
"You're serious?"
"Of course, I want both of you guys to come over," John smiled as the two girls shared a smile.
"I'd love to," Cali told the boy, tilting her chin to look at the boy's face.
"I'm excited about second year," John claimed after a few moments causing Greta to laugh.
"Why is that? It's such a filler year."
"How is it a filler year?" Cali questioned.
"Well think about it, first year is full of wonder and desperately hoping not to get lost. Third year is about Hogsmeade. Fourth year is the final year of not having to stress about exams, fifth year is about trying not to die while you study for OWLs, sixth year is about enjoying your last bit of free time before graduation, while seventh year is about graduation and NEWTs," Greta explained causing Cali to frown.
"I think it's the last year to really be a kid," Cali replied.
"What?" John questioned, furrowing his eyebrows.
"Third year is when dating and boys become a thing and from that moment on, we're just on this rocket that's shooting us through adulthood and there is no getting off the rocket at that point. We're just going to be stuck on it. Next year will be the last year of that stuff just not happening yet, the last year where we won't be worrying about if we'll get a date to Hogsmeade."
"You're not excited about all of that?" Greta asked curiously.
"Of course, but that'll come when it's time," Cali shrugged. "It's not time yet and I want to enjoy this."
There was a brief moment of silence, the sound of squeals and crying from a group of Gryffindor seventh year girl's seemed to be filling the entire yard as they exchanged their goodbyes and promises that they would see each other soon before John interrupted it. "So, you're not ready for boys?"
Cali giggled, "No, I'm not." Just at that moment, she heard the laughter of Sirius as he came rushing out of the main doors of Hogwarts, his hair that had grown long over the past year was flowing in the wind as he rushed outside, his cloak nowhere to be seen and his tie loosened with the first few buttons of the shirt completely unbuttoned as he seemed to rush towards the trio.
