Chapter Twelve: Sirius' Birthday
---

While there had not been another incident between Wilkes and Cali, she always found herself dreading DADA. He would sit beside her, growling whenever she thumped against the table, sneering whenever she failed a spell, and constantly bumping his shoulder against hers at any opportunity.

That day, she had trudged through the halls as Greta pulled her into the classroom. "I'm not in the mood to go to class," Cali groaned.

"Come on," John shouted, "We're learning about wand movements today."

"Oh yippee," Cali snapped. "It's not like we haven't been learning spells all year. What's the point of this?"

"Wow, the fairy-like attitude from Halloween really dissipated, huh?"

Cali frowned. "Sorry, I just really hate this class."

"Even more than Transfiguration?" John asked, an eyebrow quirked at her.

"Please, if I ever perform a spell in that class then I'll be surprised."

It was true, Cali had refused to perform every spell in that class up until this point. She had been fighting with McGonagall left and right, refusing to perform any sort of spell that turned an animal into anything which had lost them house points on a few occasions. During their last class, Cali offered to perform the cat-to-teacup spell in her animagus form but the professor didn't take too kindly to that idea. Her mother had even lectured her due to the various letters that have been complaining about her attitude.

"Class is about to start, stop daydreaming," Greta snapped, pushing the girl into the classroom as Cali straightened up, tensing while she shuffled to her seat.

She didn't even notice the professor announced that they would be doing partner work by testing each other on wand movements and recognizing them during a battle as she claimed that if the duelists were using wordless magic then the extra few extra seconds of knowledge could help. "Hey blood- traitor," Wilkes growled, bumping his shoulder harshly against hers.

"Did you listen to a word they said?" Wilkes growled as Cali flushed.

"Of course, I did."
"Oh, and what are we supposed to be doing?"

Cali looked around the room quickly, noticing how everybody was tracing something into the air while the other guessed what it was. "Playing a guessing game?" The boy rolled his eyes, a sneer forming as he rolled his eyes.

She flinched when he leaned closer and he smirked at her reaction, "Scared?"

"Back away from me, Wilkes."
"What? I'm not Gregory anymore?"

"You made it very clear that you didn't want to be called Gregory."

"Just wanted to make sure you remembered, don't want you to have to learn your lesson."

"I'm so scared," She mocked though he could see that she was tensed.

"I know."

They ended up ignoring each other as Cali decided to draw the wand movements on a piece of parchment, hoping that she would be able to memorize them that way and flinched whenever the boy beside her moved.

The rest of the day went by slowly and it was during lunch that the entire Gryffindor table sang "Happy Birthday" incredibly loudly and off- tune that she remembered it was Sirius' birthday. She watched as the three boys were doing everything in their power to make sure it was a good birthday for him and smiled as Regulus had told her after the feast on Halloween that the Black household never really celebrated birthdays.

Later that day, Cali had practically skipped towards the Herbology greenhouse, smiling when she caught sight of Sirius who had been wearing a birthday sash and a furry pink crown that was at least four sizes too small and hugged him excitedly.

"It's your birthday!" Cali cheered.

"Yes, so bow down to your queen," He threw his hand out towards Cali as he straightened his back in order to appear more royal as Cali bowed dramatically. This move had caused the boy to start laughing, throwing his head back while his crown began to slip as she went to grab for it.

"Don't lose your crown, birthday boy."
"I won't but whoever shall be my king?"

"You're a powerful queen, you don't need no man," Cali immediately replied as he laughed.

They had quieted down when Sprout came into the room, quietly wishing Sirius a "Happy Birthday" before she began her lecture and Cali took out a piece of parchment and scribbled the notes intently, swatting Sirius away whenever he would try to write something on the side of her parchment.

A/N: I feel like somebody's going to comment that Sirius would have had this huge birthday party or something and maybe you're right but I didn't think it made a ton of sense for a group of boys that met this guy 3 months ago to go absolutely wild when they're 11 years old. I can tell you that in my eyes, this was Sirius' favorite birthday by far and there was a celebration in the dorm rooms but nothing that Cali needed to be apart of. Cali isn't a Marauder. Hell, she's only just met all of the boys officially.

Now, I do plan for the other boys birthday's to be a bit more dramatic as they've known each other awhile at this point as James, Peter, and Remus all share birthdays in the same month.

Also fun fact: We're about half- way through first year now!
