Chapter Sixty- Five: Flobberworms

---

"Please don't be mad at me," Lily Evans begged the Hufflepuff as they walked towards their Care of Magical Creatures class.

"Why would I be mad at you?" Cali rolled her eyes.

"Well you see, I was telling Marlene, Alice, and Mary about your date with Bertram Aubrey. I mean, the date was horrid and Mary had expressed an attraction to the boy so I simply wanted to warn the girl about what happened during your date. But I mean, that bloody Potter boy is such a creep. He was listening in on our conversation!" Lily ranted, causing Greta to giggle who was walking with the girls.

"Ok?" Cali said, clearly not understanding.

"You haven't heard," Lily realized. "Sorry, I just assumed. I guess that Potter is just so loud that I assumed every had heard about the situation. It seems that he thought I was telling the girls about my own date with that egotistical idiot and cursed the boy!" Lily explained. "Turned his head twice its size, which I must admit was quite fitting considering our own conversation but still. That boy is incapable of minding his own business."

"It's ok," Cali shrugged. "I really don't mind." She wasn't sure what she was supposed to say, and didn't love that the Gryffindor was speaking so negatively of James.

"Right!" Lily laughed. "Oh, I completely forgot. You're friends with him, I am so sorry. I completely forgot. That boy just makes me so angry, I just can't understand a single choice that he makes. I mean, why even curse the boy for his ego? Somebody should curse him!"

"He thought you were-" Greta began to defend but stopped as Lily interrupted.

"Yes, he explained that he was trying to preserve my honor! I mean, what a loud of crap!" Lily whined as they finally made it to the classroom. "Ok, I am going to sit with Mary. She agreed to take this class with me so I'd feel awful if I just completed ditched her."

"She talks a lot," Greta whispered into Cali's ears as they walked to their usual spot. This time there were desks with small enclosures in front of everybody's seats. Inside the enclosure was dirt with a water bowl and a few other things as Cali inspected the small enclosure. "What in the Merlin are these?" Greta asked the girl.

She watched for a moment until she finally saw the big near the glass under the dirt. It was about a 10 inch creature with small rings around the insect. "It's a Flobberworm!" Cali realized excitedly, "Oh, this is so exciting." Cali pointed towards the creature so that Greta could see the creature as Greta pulled a face.

"Oh yes," Greta groaned. "Exciting indeed."

"Hello Class!" Professor Kettleburn greeted. "Today, I am sure you have figured this out. But we are going to learn about the Flobberworm. In front of every pair is a small enclosure with a flobberworm inside. Please raise your hand if you can see the insect!"

A handful of people raised their hands. "Excellent. Now, it's not surprising that these particular creatures were classified by the Ministry of Magic with an X, which is the lowest possible classification that any creature can exist. The Ministry of Magic did not find this particular creature to be very interesting, which is such a shame because I quite enjoy them." Cali nodded excitedly in agreement.

"They are typically a ten inch creature with mouths on both sides- though do not worry. They are not capable of hurting you much, they don't have any teeth. But they do exude mucus so if you do handle the Flobberworms do not be surprised by a slimy feeling of their bodies."

The girl sitting beside Lily Evans- Mary MacDonald, Cali suspected- raised her hand tentatively and Kettleburn quickly called on the nervous girl. "How is this creature considered magical?"

"I am glad you asked, Miss. MacDonald. There are a variety of uses in Flobberworms. For one, Flobberworm's mucus can be used to thicken certain potions. Additionally, it is one of the few living creatures that a summoning charm can summon. Plus, Flobberworms are edible. The kitchens often make Flobberworm fritters," Kettleburn, himself, pulled a disgusted look as he informed the class. "Highly don't recommend."

"Now, under everybody's desk is some lettuce. This is going to be a simple class today. Please feed your flobberworms this lettuce, they don't particularly like to be handled and they don't do much. But please, go ahead and feed them. Please don't overfeed them, Flobberworms aren't very good at realizing that they are full and will eat until they perish."

With that, Kettleburn left the group as he walked towards Hagrid's Hut. Greta grabbed the lettuce before she began telling Cali about her particular date with Davey Gudgeon that she had on Sunday during Hogsmeade weekend. "I quite like him," Greta giggled. "He's quite polite."

"How does he feel about the Whomping Willow?" Cali asked cheekily.

"Shut up," Greta laughed. "I'm quite serious. But about that date with Bertram Aubrey. You didn't seem very interested in the date from the get go. What gives?"

Cali sighed, rolling her shoulders as she carefully placed a piece of lettuce in the enclosure. "I'm not quite sure honestly," she confessed. "I mean, Bertram is quite attractive but it was almost like every part of my soul was aware that he just wasn't the person I was meant to be going on a date with. I found myself wishing it was somebody else."

"Who were you wishing he was?" Greta asked, though it didn't seem to be because she was curious but rather trying to seek confirmation.

"Regulus," Cali groaned. "We almost kissed when he was in the hospital."

"Did you want to kiss him?" Greta asked as Cali's cheeks enflamed.

"Perhaps I wouldn't be disappointed."

"You like Regulus," Greta laughed. "Merlin, about time you admitted it."

"You knew?" Cali gasped. "Dear Merlin, am I that obvious?"

"Yes," Greta nodded. "But don't worry, I don't believe Regulus has a clue."

"STOP ASKING ME ABOUT POTTER!" Lily roared at the boy, catching the attention of the pair as the Gryffindor boy walked away quickly, trying to avoid the girl's wrath any further as they burst into giggles.

"When will he ever give up? Lily hates him," Greta sighed.

"Probably wont," Cali shrugged. "I've seen the way he looks at her."
