The Kind Hufflepuff - Year Two
Chapter Forty- Four: Medal of Magical Merit
---
When Cali had ensured Remus that she had a plan to bring back all of the Gryffindor boys, she had been completely lying. In fact, she had gone to the Black Lake like normal to meet up with Regulus Black to contemplate on what the plan would even be, and worried that with each passing moment would destroy her chances on bringing the brave boys back together.
"What if I fail?" Cali fretted to Regulus, her head on his lap as she threw her Herbology book aside in frustration, "I can't even focus on the book, all I can think about is this potential plan that I have promised two of the four boys that I have but I don't."
Regulus smiled slightly, watching his best friend worry about his brother and friends and sighed, "I suppose that I could help," Regulus offered.
"You mean that?" Cali bounced up, her eyes bright as she looked into his grey eyes, noting that they looked nothing like Sirius' despite them being brothers. "You'll help me come up with a plan?"
"Never tell my brother," Regulus rolled his eyes. "I would never hear the end of it, and frankly he would probably accuse us of this being some sort of dark arts thing."
"He would not," Cali rolled her eyes, patting the boys arm. "But I appreciate the help."
"As long as you know I'm doing it for you," Regulus informed the girl.
"I know, I still appreciate it," Cali smiled, "Now do you have any ideas?"
"We've been sitting here for hours and you don't have a single plan?"
"Tying them up using muggle rope and locking them in the kitchens until they talk is pretty much the best I got," Cali admitted quietly.
"Muggle rope? Not even magic?" Regulus laughed.
"Well, do you have a better plan?" Cali challenged.
"Well, Peter and Remus both separately already know what is going on. So really, you just have to ask them to go to the kitchens. The game is Sirius and James," Regulus pointed out, and Cali nodded in agreement. "We have luck on our side that you're friendly with both of them, so you could just ask them to meet in the kitchens to talk. Point that you've noticed they've been kind of lonely, which isn't a lie. Sirius has been downright mopey," Regulus shrugged.
"Then all of them are there to talk," Cali realized.
"Correct," Regulus smiled. "See, you didn't need my help. Just needed to be able to voice your thoughts," he went it to kiss her forehead, and Cali felt the tingling on her forehead as she blushed furiously.
Noticing her blush, his cheeks turned a few shades of red as he quickly cleared his throat. "My apologies, I should not have done that. I will leave you to it, don't want those boys to be miserable any longer than they already have been, do we?" Cali wondered if maybe he hadn't helped her just to help her but rather he did care about his brother despite their estrangement.
After Regulus walked away, Cali finally stood up and began walking towards the library, hoping that she would come across the boys throughout the walk. As she walked through the hospital wing, she noticed James Potter waltzing out of the room with a smirk on his face. "James?" Cali questioned, confused to see in the wing.
"Hello Cali," the boy greeted. "How are you doing?"
"I am well, but I wasn't the one that came out of the hospital wing, are you alright?"
