The Kind Hufflepuff - Year Two
Chapter Thirty Nine: New Years 1973
---
As it turns out, Narcissa Black is someone that keeps her promises because it was not long after Christmas when Calista Higgs received a personal invitation to the Black Family home on New Year's Eve. The note attached to the letter was from Regulus, which brought a smile to the girl's face as this had been the longest that she had gone without talking to the boy in quite some time.
Hey Cali,
Not sure what you did but you made Narcissa incredibly happy. There were rumors she broke off her engagement to Lucius but truthfully, I think they're more sickenly together than ever before. Not sure what you did but Narcissa demanded Lucius allows you to be invited and to spread the world that you're alright. I know I agree with that sentiment. Can't wait to see you on NYE.
P.S. Don't dress up fancy. This is usually just a family thing so it would seem rather odd if you dressed in a formal piece.
R.A.B.
Even her parents had heard the rumblings of Lucius Malfoy renouncing his declaration of the girl being a blood traitor, and though her parents hadn't deemed it possible that Cali would be able to rectify the situation, this had been proved to be in correct as people were popping up out of the woodwork to speak with them, likely craving the insider information as to how they managed to get the declaration renounced but Cali Higgs kept her lips shut, not wanting to talk about her interaction with Narcissa Black on Christmas.
Calista's mother had gone out and bought the girl an extravagant dress for the occasion, wanting the young girl to look her best but Cali quickly declined, telling her mother that she was going to wear simple muggle attire of bell bottom pants and a tight fighting baby blue colored t-shirt. "You look like a muggle," Calista's mother tsked, "You were just labelled as a blood traitor, you can't come across as a muggle lover."
"I am just wearing casual clothes," Cali argued, rolling her eyes.
"Don't roll your eyes at me, young lady," her mother chastised.
"Yes, yes. I apologize," Cali replied, blinking her eyes rapidly to try and imitate an innocent expression.
"Child, just go to the event. Remember that you are representing this family, please behave."
"Yes mother," Cali responded, polite but bored.
With that, she stepped into the fireplace and picked up a handful of floo powder. "12 Grimmauld Place."
The first thing she noticed about 12 Grimmauld Place was that it was smaller than Narcissa's family home. It was tall, at least a few stories and dark. The home was not extravagant but was quite homey instead if you ignored the ornate crown molding and the extravagant paintings of notable Blacks that have since passed away. They were having conversations amongst themselves, too quietly for Cali to be able to hear. "Cali?" the recognizable voice of Regulus Black interrupted her thoughts as she turned towards the emerald velvet couch that sat Regulus Black.
"Reg," Cali breathed in, smiling brightly as Regulus stood and quickly walked towards the girl to hug her.
"You've gotten shorter," Regulus noticed, placing his chin on the top of the girl's head.
"No Reg, you've gotten taller," Cali smiled brightly.
"Happy New Year," Regulus smiled, his grey eyes clear and twinkling as he looked down at the older girl. "I'm not sure how you did it, but Lucius is practically singing your praises."
