The Kind Hufflepuff - Year Two

Chapter Forty- Six: Bloodtraitor

---

Cali's head was craned towards the entrance of the Great Hall, completely ignoring the food that laid out in front of her as her eyes anxiously searched for Daisy Hookums. The two people sitting around her, Greta and John, seemed to be equally as concerned as they only perked up when the doors opened but Daisy was never one that came through. The three of them ignoring the Valentines Day festivities that filled the Great Hall.

"Hi," a younger Hufflepuff greeted meekly, standing in front of the group as she wringed her hands in nervousness.

"Hi," the three greeted back.

"If you're looking for Daisy, she's in the- the Hospital Wing."

"Why is she in the hospital wing?" Greta practically growled out though before she even finished the sentence, John had already barreled out of the Great Hall.

"Dahlia- uh, she sort of, um," the first year whispered quietly.

"What?" Greta urged impatiently.

"Greta," Cali snapped. "Calm down. Sweetie, what happened?"

"Dahlia put something in her potion," the first year whispered. "They took Daisy to the hospital wing." Greta walked out of the Great Hall, leaving the two girls alone as Cali smiled sweetly at the girl.

"Thank you for letting us know," Cali assured the girl, before heading off towards the Great Hall.

"What a way to spend time on Valentines Day," she heard John humming to the girl who laid in her bed. Daisy's arms were covered in wraps as she sat criss-crossed apple sauce on the bed, otherwise seeming to be completely fine.

"I'm sorry," Daisy whispered to the boy. Greta and Cali stood a few feet from the couple, feeling as though they were interrupting something as they hung back, their worried eyes scanning Daisy to check for any other injuries.

"Don't be sorry," John assured the girl, grabbing one of her hands delicately. "I'm just glad you're ok."

"Should we go?" Greta asked Cali who nodded enthusiastically.

"Yes," Cali confirmed, grabbing the girl's hand as they quietly exited the Hospital Wing.

"Rotten luck to be in the hospital wing on Valentines Day," Greta hummed.

"True," Cali nodded. "But they somehow made it work. Do you still have that date with that Ravenclaw?" She asked Greta curiously.

"Oh Merlin! Yes, I completely forgot!" Greta realized before darting down the hallway.

Cali Higgs never understood the point of such a holiday, and truthfully believed they were still too young to be worried about such matters but they were getting older every day. She would be a liar if the idea of Valentines Day didn't fill her with the vision of being with the love of her life, celebrating and being enthralled with each other's existence as they celebrated such a love. But right now, all she really wanted to do was spend the day with Regulus.

She decided that she would head towards the library where she knew Regulus would be studying, and smiled brightly when she saw the boy. "R-" she began to say before she moved closer and he realized that the boy wasn't studying like he usually did in the library but was rather talking to Dahlia.

"You could get so much better," Dahlia hummed, playing with her Hufflepuff tie.

"Whatever," Regulus had rolled his eyes.

"I just think that we could be so great," Dahlia let go of her tie as she scooted closer to the boy, her eyes meeting his as Cali assessed their proximity. She realized she was hoping Regulus would move out of the girl's way, that he would stop the girl from kissing him like she feared she would do. "Frankly, you have the worst taste in women. I mean, a bloodtraitor?" the girl questioned, her hand caressing Regulus' cheek.

"She's not a blood traitor," Regulus argued.

"Yes, well, I've heard mixed opinion on that very topic," Dahlia shrugged. "Come on, it's Valentines Day. Give me a chance, and let me show you how good we could be together," Dahlia urged the boy who seemed reluctant to agree.

"Fine," Regulus relented, rolling his eyes. "What do you want to do?" He asked her, putting his things back into his bag in preparation to leave the library. Cali realized that they were about to get up and didn't want to get caught, didn't want Regulus to realize that she was hoping they would spend time together as her mind raced around the idea of Regulus and Dahlia spending time together.

Regulus likes Daisy?

Cali thought back to the conversation she just overheard as she dived towards the stacks of books, and hid between them just as the young couple passed. Why wouldn't he tell her that he had a thing for one of her best friends? Doesn't he know that Daisy and John are together?

She didn't want to admit that she fighting back tears as she raced back to the Hufflepuff Dormitory.
