The Kind Hufflepuff - Year Three

Chapter Fifty- Two: Bowtruckle

---

The Potter family greenhouse is gorgeous- filled with all sorts of plants that covered the greenhouse from floor to ceiling and along hundreds of tables. This was the largest greenhouse that she had ever seen, possibly rivaling even the multiple Hogwarts greenhouses that was separated based off your year in Hogwarts for safety purposes. In front of each of the gorgeous plants had a small little dainty notecard indicating the name of the plant. She had found the greenhouse pretty early on during her visit at the home and had fallen in love. She often spent hours sitting at the edge of the greenhouse against an empty wall with her knees bent to her chest and her notebook laying in her lap as she observed.

The plant that she was currently taking notes was that of a smelly one, a blooming flower that almost resembled a lily with a large monument looking middle that sprouted taller than she even was. It smelled like a corpse if Cali was being honest which was fitting as the tag in front of it read 'Corpse Flower.' Cali was almost willing to admit that it was the ugliest flower she had ever seen in her life though, it was only almost. She was currently describing the plant in her notebook alongside a shitty drawing of it- wishing she was far better. She considered asking Daisy to redraw it for her when they got back to Hogwarts just so she could preserve the memory of this disgusting plant.

She put down the pen when she heard a light rustling and decided to investigate the sound. Fleamont had warned the girl that there were little pests that had been destroying his raspberry plants but he frankly did not have the time to banish the pests, or even know what they actually were. When she reached the plants, she was surprised to see a moving stick stealing a raspberry and trying to pop it into his mouth. "Hey," Cali reprimanded, waggling her finger at the small creature she recognized to be a bowtruckle. "Those aren't your plants."

The bowtruckle seemed surprised to see her and stuck out it's tongue to make a trilling sound at her in defiance as it ran further into the raspberry plants. "Excuse me," Cali argued, tapping her foot before recalling their diet of insects. "Come back out, I'll give you some ants that are in the kitchen." The bowtruckle seemed interested in that and came out of hiding once more, looking at her expectantly. She giggled in response, "You're just a hungry little guy, huh?" Cali cooed, "I'll hold you and take you to the kitchens, if you want?" Cali offered.

The bowtruckle regarded her for a moment before climbing up her arm to her shoulder. She began walking towards the house, feeling the bowtruckle playing with the locket around her neck until the heart was in the hands of the bowtruckle. Once they were inside, Cali showed the small creature where she knew some ants resided. "What is that?" Euphemia interrupted the pair and the bowtruckle quickly hid behind the Hufflepuff.

"He's a bowtruckle," Cali shrugged, giggling lightly. "He was in the greenhouse. I think he's the raspberry thief," Cali explained quickly. Euphemia regarded the creature for a moment as it scurried up Cali's arm and took hold of the locket once more.

"It seems rather interested in the locket," Euphemia pondered.

"It is a piece of Wiggentree Bark," Cali shrugged, watching the creature on her shoulder. "Bowtruckles are known for guarding them," Cali mumbled.

"You sure know a lot about magical creatures," Euphemia commented.

"Yeah," Cali shrugged. "I've always been sort of been obsessed."

"You should keep him," Euphemia replied. "I know Fleamont would appreciate it. The plants in there are for his potions, and some for fun."

"I was observing the corpse flower when I noticed him," Cali commented.

"Ah, the Titan Arum, yes? Pungnant smell," Euphemia commented.

"Titan Arum?"

"It's the scientific name for the plant," Euphemia told the girl.

"I think I'm going to name you Titan," Cali informed the small bowtruckle, giggling.

"Just keep an eye on hi, okay? Fleamont wouldn't like it much if he ate more of the raspberries."

"Ok, but in my defense, they usually only eat raspberries," Cali defended.

"Well, not that little guy."

A/N: Hey guys! This is definitely a shorter chapter but honestly, I just couldn't think of what to add to this honestly. I got what I wanted to happen and the last chapter was a little too long to add this to.
