The Kind Hufflepuff - First Year
Chapter Nineteen: Powdered Silver and Dittany
---Cali was thankful when it was time to go back to Hogwarts, having found herself missing her friends immensely and the prospect of not going to bed as she listened to the screams of one of your best friends seemed incredibly appealing. What she wasn't looking forward to was DADA where she knew she would inevitably find herself talking to Gregory Wilkes.
This concern was proven to have merit during the next DADA class that they attended when Wilkes sat down, bumping his shoulder against hers as he sat down and sent her a nasty snarl in greeting. "How were your holidays?" Cali asked, a smile contradicting his own expression as he glared at her.
"My what?"
"Your holidays? Wilkes, have you hit your head? Perhaps you need to go to Madam Pomfrey if you don't remember the last month of your life," Cali replied with false concern as she examined him.
Wilkes face was tense as he tried to figure out her plan before rolling his eyes. "Sod off," He growled, turning away as she smiled to herself, realizing that she had successfully confused him.
"I'm sorry to hear that," Cali replied.
"Sorry to hear what?"
"Based off your reaction, I just assumed you didn't enjoy your holidays," she shrugged, keeping her eyes trained on the board as the professor started writing down the page numbers for what they were covering while she skimmed through her textbook, looking to see what the material was.
"Werewolf Bites," Cali muttered, reading the chapter title as Wilkes laughed.
"Maybe I'll get lucky enough and a werewolf will kill you."
She didn't reply to him, her expression turning stony as she listened to professor speak. "Now, can anyone tell me what a werewolf is?" They announced, watching as various students raised their hands. "Mr. Snape, why don't you tell the class."
"Werewolves are categorized as both being and beast depending on their form, being when they appear to be like one of us and beast during their transformations. They only fully transform during the full moons and in order to be cursed with this affliction, you must be bitten."
"10 points to Slytherin, well done," The professor complimented, smiling. "Now, I don't want you to assume that werewolves are only dangerous during transformation. These monsters are disgusting creatures that deserve death above all." If anybody had been watching Cali, they would have noticed that she was gripping onto her desk with all her might, her jaw clenched as she gripped the desk in anger.
"According to the late Professor Forfang, it is incredibly uncommon to survive a werewolf bite. Even in their human form, they can curse you through bites though you will not be able to transform into your true self. These bites, regardless of their form, will leave permanent scars and can be a clear indication of their forms. A fresh wound, if you are unfortunate enough to experience it, can be sealed with a mixture of powdered silver dittany however."
As the professor continued on with various ways to heal both werewolf bites and scratches, Cali felt her anger rise with each nasty comment until she finally snapped. "Werewolves aren't monsters! They are people who were unfortunate enough to deal with the consequences of being bitten by a werewolf. They were in the wrong place at the wrong time but they aren't evil beings. They can be dangerous but most werewolves in their human form aren't going to bite somebody for the hell of it," Cali yelled.
"10 points from Hufflepuff and detention tonight," The professor snapped. "Werewolves are at the highest danger level according to the Ministry of Magic, known murderers and impossible to domesticate."
