The Kind Hufflepuff - First Year
Chapter Thirteen: Bat Bogey Hex

"Does anybody else find it odd that the first quidditch match of the year is between the biggest rivalries at Hogwarts?" John asked curiously as he wrapped himself further into his yellow sweater as he sat down on the bleachers with Greta and Cali while Cali took out a red and green blanket, ignoring the nasty looks that various students around her who were clearly rooting for one team or another as her two friends smiled gratefully, throwing the blanket over their laps for extra comfort.
"What do you mean?" Greta asked, her eyebrows furrowed together in confusion.
"I just mean that this is clearly the most riveting game of the year so shouldn't it be last rather than first?" John asked curiously as the girls shrugged.
"I don't know but Bertie, Tiberius, and Rufus are hype about this game. They have been training for ages. You know they started their quidditch training sessions on the third of September?"
"Is that even allowed? I don't think Edgar even had tryouts until the second week of September."
"Tib said that they had try-outs at the end of last year since first years aren't even allowed to join. That way they could start as soon as possible, I think it is going well for them. They're all pretty confident about this win," Cali shrugged.
"Do you really mean to tell me that you're rooting for the Slytherins?" Some random Hufflepuff behind them asked in disgust as Cali rolled her eyes, her eyes darting back to the Hufflepuff who looked as though she was going to explode in anger.
"What? Is it illegal to root for my brother?"
"You're rooting for the enemy."
"I'll root for Hufflepuff in the Hufflepuff vs. Slytherin game but in the meantime, I'm rooting for Slytherin."
Greta wrapped her arm around Cali to distract her, changing the topic as she bit her lip and examined the field before turning to the group. "So, anyone care to explain Quidditch to me?"
"You don't know how to play Quidditch?" Cali asked.
"It doesn't exist in the muggle world."
"QUIDDITCH DOESN'T EXIST?" John asked, sounding as though he had been betrayed by this piece of information as Cali flicked his ear. Cali stopped listening to the pair as John launched into a detailed explanation, explaining every single detail though she caught the confusion on Greta's face throughout the entire thing as she looked around the pitch to see that it had filled considerably, catching sight of Wilkes who sent her a nasty glare, raising a finger and cutting it across his neck in a threatening manner causing the girl to shiver in fear just as the announcer's voice erupted through the pitch.
"Welcome to the highly anticipated, biggest event of the year! This is the first quidditch match of the year between Gryffindor and Slytherin!" The voice droned on, sounding incredibly boring as he immediately launched into details about what was going on as Bilius Weasley and Steve Laughalot shook hands begrudgingly before launching into the sky as the snitch was released.
Greta had watched in confused silence as John halted any sort of explanation for the game as Cali kept her gaze stuck on her brother, a vivid memory of a letter that she had received from her brother informing her of a time that a quaffle had hit him in the ribcage which caused him to be thrown off his broom the year before. Cali had been terrified, having never really understood the true dangers of the game until that moment that remembered running to her mother in complete tears who had been reading a similar letter.
"What's happening?" Greta finally asked the girl as she jolted out of her thoughts, jumping as she turned to her friend in confusion while she gestured to the game. "There's these hoops, that gold thing in the sky that nobody seems to be paying attention to besides this other gross looking ball that everybody is giving attention to and then there's people with bats? Also how are these people good enough flyers to not have to keep their hands on their broom?" Cali giggled at this as Greta rattled off more and more questions.
