The Kind Hufflepuff - Year Three

Chapter Sixty- Two: Invisibility Cloak

---

It wasn't long before Christmas Break began, and after a short letter from Ardel Higgs instructing Cali to not get on the train to come back home, she found herself inside the walls of the Castle for Christmas this year.

Greta, Daisy, and even John had all spent a considerable amount of time trying to convince the girl to come visit them during the holidays instead, but Cali kept refusing. She had claimed to be worried about interrupting their time with their parents- pointing out that they rarely ever see them nowadays. But in all reality, it's because she had a feeling that a certain Black brother would also be at Hogwarts this year, in the same boat as her.

She hadn't forgiven him for the Quidditch incident- though Sirius was not exactly quick to apologize and had kept quite a distance from the girl since. Despite all of this, she still cared for the Black brother deeply and wanted to make sure that he wasn't left along for Christmas, so she hung around as the Christmas decorations stepped up a notch throughout the grounds. Christmas Trees seemed to be found in every corner of the castle, colorful lights surrounding the light fixtures and columns, and a soft Christmas tune seemed to be playing everywhere she went. She had to admit that it was far more festive than her own home- especially since the house elves were quick to provide peppermint hot chocolate and vegan cookies upon request.

She was roaming through the castle, surprised by just how quiet the castle seemed to be when she saw Sirius staring at the ground. She noted how different he seemed to be right, his hair falling into his face as he kept his eyes glued to the floor. She stopped walking, watching the boy as she wondered how he was feeling about being asked to stay for Christmas and wanted to say something. She wanted to reach out to him, grab his arm, and promise that everything was going to be but stopped herself, her last interaction with the boy running through her mind.

"I want nothing to do with you, If he's not okay then that is on you."

Sirius popped his head up, probably realizing that there was somebody in front of him and froze. He didn't particularly seem surprised to see her, but clearly wasn't sure how to approach the situation. He looked around, probably wondering if he should just turn around pretend he hadn't see her when she cleared her throat. "Hi," Cali greeted quietly, her eyes diverting away.

"Hey," Sirius mumbled, rubbing the back of his neck and Cali smiled.

"I see you're stuck here for the holidays as well."

"Yeah," Sirius nodded. "You as well?"

"A letter, very polite but firm. Told me not to get on the train," Cali shrugged.

"Did our parents coordinate letters?" Sirius joked causing the girl to giggle. "Is Regulus-" and Cali shook her head before he could finish the question.

"He went home," Cali confirmed, and Sirius sighed in response.

"Should have expected." Neither of them seemed to know what to say for a moment before Cali sighed, rubbing her arms to try and get feeling back despite her large sweater that enveloped her body.

"Would you maybe want to go to the Hufflepuff common room?" Cali offered. "Nobody else is here for the holidays, so it would just be the two of us."

Sirius seemed surprised, clearing throat awkwardly before nodding. "Sure."

"I'm sorry for blaming you," Cali mumbled after a few moments as they walked towards the Hufflepuff common room.

"Blaming me about what?"
