The Kind Hufflepuff - Second Year

Chapter Twenty Eight: Dormmate

---

Cali, Greta, and John bounded into the DADA classroom, laughing as they joked about what the professor for the school year would be like. "I mean, she seems cool based off what we've seen during meals," Cali commented.

"But it's still a cursed position so somethings wrong with her or something is going to happen to her," Greta hummed as Cali nodded.

"The last person was not that great of a teacher anyways," John piped up.

"I didn't think they were bad," Cali hummed.

"Of course, you didn't. Do we even know what happened to the last one?"

"I've just heard a lot of rumors," Cali shrugged.

Once class had started, Septima Imago smiled kindly at all the students. "Hello all, it's a pleasure to be teaching you Defense Against the Dark Arts today. I am Septima Imago and I was a Hogwarts student myself quite some time ago and was actually a Slytherin during my time, I often boasted that I was the next and upcoming Merlin with my mother which terrified her." The woman looked around, her hazel eyes studying each student as she pulled out a piece of parchment.

"I know you're going to hate this, but I have created a seating chart, I'm likely to change it as I see fit but I really sponsor house unity. There's no sense in acting like we're not all wizards and embracing our different personalities is incredibly important for the real world. Not everyone is just like your house and it's better to learn that now and not after graduation." With that, she slowly placed students at specific tables.

Greta was placed with some Ravenclaw girl that Cali had not really noticed before while John was placed with another girl who seemed to be annoyed at the very idea of his existence. She was constantly rolling her eyes and would not let the boy get in a word whatsoever.

Meanwhile, Cali enjoyed her seating placement. Bertram Aubrey had always been incredibly kind to her despite not really knowing each other. He was the kind of boy that smiled to everybody as he walked through the hallways and Cali had noticed him cheering up homesick first years the entire weekend and was ecstatic to be placed with him.

"Bertram," The boy introduced as Cali giggled. The boy had easy blue eyes and a chiseled face despite their young age, and despite having the same name as her brother, she found no similarities between the two of them.

"Cali." The two offered a kind smile before putting their focus back onto the board.

It was only until after class when Bertram had hurried away with his friends that Greta walked up to her, a knowing smile on her face. "You know, Bertram's a really cute boy," Greta hummed as Cali rolled her eyes.

"Would you like me to set you up with him?" She asked curiously and Greta shook her head in response.

"No, I want you guys to get together," Greta laughed.

"I've told you a thousand times now that I'm not interested," Cali argued.

"Oh, come on. We're growing up," Greta reminded her.

"Maybe I'll eventually have feelings for him. But for right now, I'm not interested," Cali assured.

"I'm going to bet that eventually that will change."

Cali laughed at this, "Whatever you say."

Later that day, Cali decided to skip dinner so that she could take a nap before Astronomy when she heard soft sniffles in the girl's dormitory. "Hello?" Cali questioned. "Hey, are you okay?" Cali called out once more as she walked towards the first year's dorm where the crying seemed to be coming from. When she opened the door, her eyes were immediately drawn to the closed curtains of the bed furthest from everyone else, a shadow of a small girl laying in the bed.

"Hi, my name is Cali. Is everything okay?" Cali questioned once more.

The little girl looked up; her eyes were puffy from crying as she was hugging her knees. "I'm fine," The little girl murmured out as Cali sighed.

"Now, I think if you were fine then you wouldn't be crying. So maybe tell me what happened?" Cali argued, moving to sit beside the girl as she slowly rubbed circles on the small girl's back. The girl only seemed to cry harder as Cali sighed, taking note of the messy red hair that was covering the girl's face.

"You're Daisy, right?" Cali tried once more. "My best friend likes your hair, mostly because it reminds her of her own," Cali whispered to the girl, giggling softly. "I think it's really pretty too."

"I'm scared that she's going to come back," Daisy admitted softly.

"Who?" Cali questioned, her eyebrows furrowing.

"It's not a big deal," Daisy declined to answer, burrowing her

"She's been threatening you?" Cali asked, concerned.

"I don't deserve to be here."

"Why are you saying that? Daisy, of course you do."

"No, my dad is a muggle. I don't deserve to be here."

"Daisy, that doesn't matter. My friend, Greta, has two muggle parents and she's an amazing witch. Lily, a Gryffindor, is one of the smartest in my year and she's a muggleborn too. You 100% deserve to be here, Daisy."

"She doesn't think so," Daisy mumbled.

"What she been saying?"

"That I deserve to be killed for risking my school like that."

"Oh, hell no," Cali growled, jumping up from her spot on the bed. "Come on, Daisy. We need to talk to Sprout," Cali reassured the girl as she grabbed the girl's hand and pulled her.

"Wait, why?"

"Because I was bullied last year. And I didn't deserve it. And neither do you."

"No, it's okay. It's not that big of a deal. I'm okay."

"Daisy. You were crying in your bed and scared that one of your roommates would return," Cali reasoned.

"What could she even do?" Daisy argued.

"Maybe you could move in with us?" Cali suggested, shrugging.

"You have room for that?"

"There wasn't a lot of Hufflepuff girls that were sorted which allowed every house to move around to live with people. Our other roommates moved in with a couple third years so it's just Greta and I."

"I can move in with you guys. Greta won't mind?"

"Greta would love to have you."

Cali watched as Daisy's eyes brightened, a smile growing across her face despite the puffiness from crying, her eyes looked more alive as she seemed to bounce in her spot. "Let's go talk to her?"

"Yeah, come on."

Later on that day, Cali walked into the shared dorm room of Greta and her while Daisy was excitedly packing up her things after their long conversation with Professor Sprout who readily agreed to the small girl moving in with Cali and Greta and promised that Dahlia would receive some type of punishment for her actions.

"Hey..." Cali greeted sheepishly as she caught sight of Greta who was laying on her bed, reading an informational book about different types of cheeses. "We have to talk."

"What is it?" Greta asked, closing her book when she noticed Cali standing by the door, holding onto the doorknob behind her as she faced her best friend.

"I know we were excited about living together with it just being the two of us," Cali began, biting her lip.

"Yeahh."

"Well, we're getting a new roommate."

"How?"

"I found a crying girl and she was having problems with her roommate and well, I offered that she moves in with us and that you would be okay with it and well. We have a roommate!" Greta sighed, nodding her head.

"Is she okay?"

"Yeah, I think she will be."

"Then I'm glad to have her."

"It's the red head from the sorting," Cali smiled brightly.

"Poor thing, having problems already?"
