Chapter One: Lestrange Engagement
--

"Calista!" Her mother had called from the foot of the stairs as she inspected her floor length gown, made of an almost cotton- type fabric and the color of emeralds, a slit trailing up her gown that revealed her thigh in an almost- elegant manner. It was in these moments that her young age of thirty-one surprised many and the idea of her possibly having a teenager or having a young girl that's about to start Hogwarts.

Upon hearing her name, Calista closed the book that she had gotten from muggle London, a piece titled An Encyclopedia for Mammals that listed all relevant information that she digested with great excitement. She examined her own gown, ensuring that she had not wrinkled the lavender and white striped dress that had a large collar.

She hadn't even thought to look into the mirror before running down the stairs which she regretted when she reached foyer and caught sight of her mother, noticing the sneer as she inspected the small girl. A few of the ringlets had begun to unravel as her mother moved towards her, bringing her finger into the curl and holding it close to her face. "What have you done, Calista?"

"Sorry mother." She looked behind her mother to see her brother leaning against the wall as he bounced on his feet, excited to see his friends. However, their father was nowhere to be seen, causing the girl to frown. "Where is he?" She demanded and pushed her mother away as she moved to search for him. "Mum, where is he?"

"Working."

"I thought this was a work event," Calista muttered under her breath.

"Calista, I don't have time for this. We're already late," Her mother rolled her eyes before extending both of her arms, "I really wish they would let you already learn Apparition."

"Bert, please don't vomit again." A smirk playing on her lips as she glanced towards her brother, amusement in her eyes when he sent her a glare before feeling the familiar sucking that apparition caused.

The Lestrange family had decided to hold a celebration of their oldest son's engagement and invited every Pureblood from the infamous list, giving Ethel Higgs the opportunity to finally attend one of these functions as she believed that the Higgs family deserved more recognition for upholding the purity of their line. Upon receiving the letter, she had insisted that the entire family must attend and claimed that it would make her husband look better at work.

Upon arriving, Calista looked around to see the mansion that was much larger than their home. She allowed her mother to guide her to the footsteps of the Lestrange mansion as the door revealed to see a small house elf who was immediately pushed out of the way by the woman of the household. She began talking with her mother, introducing herself as she gushed about the dress that her mother wore before turning towards Calista, "Oh my, you look absolutely beautiful. How old are you, dear?"

"11." The answer was simple, but the woman's eyes lit up.

"Oh, you're the age of the Wilkes' child and potentially even the eldest Black sibling. Go on, introduce yourself." Her cold hand gripped her shoulder, guiding her towards the library where the children seemed to have congregated. She saw various people of all ages, watching as Bertie rushed towards Tiberius McLaggen and Rufus Scrimgeour, his best friends that had visited their home on a few occasions.

"Black, Wilkes," The woman called, her back straightening and her eyes demanding. She watched as three boys exchanged a glare before standing up and walking towards them. One of the boys had slicked back hair, the color of the night sky and vibrant grey eyes. He looked pristine from an outsiders point of view, his tuxedo would have been deemed perfect by her father but Calista's eyes narrowed in on the red socks that was peeking through his pants legs and the fact that his tie had been loosened throughout the night. The boy that stood up with him was younger, his cheeks chubbier but otherwise looked like a shorter carbon copy of who she assumed was his brother. The third shared the slicked hair though his was a darker color that was the same color of his eyes and was of a larger size, his nose scrunched up as though it had smelled something sour.
