September 2014
You had no idea how long you waited in the car for Sam and Dean to return. It felt like hours, but it was probably only one, if that. If you had bothered to check your phone, you might've known exactly, but you didn't give your stupid brain the satisfaction. You preferred to stew and brood, allowing the anger and frustrations to take over. It only ended in self pity though and for the first time in a long time, you wished you were back home in Australia.
More than likely it was raining in Sydney, it was springtime after all. But that didn't stop you from going to the beach on the sunny days. Feeling the sand between your toes, the salt of the sea mixing with the wattle and eucalyptus of the nearby trees. Hell, you'd be happy sitting at central station, in the middle of the pouring rain, no umbrella or raincoat, struggling to understand the announcements over the speaker as eshays, businessmen and tourists mingled on the platform. Anywhere but here.
"Dean! What the fuck?!" Sam's voice filtered into your ears as the sound of boots crunching over gravel grew louder and the Winchester brothers walked back to the car. You refused to look in their direction, preferring not to chance locking eyes on Dean.
A shadow blocked the light coming from the house and you felt the rustle of the metal against your skin as you assumed, someone was unchaining you from the car.
You soon found out it was Dean who was removing the cuffs, having heard Sam chastise him as he walked around to the passenger side of the car. "You cuffed her to the car?!" Sam opened the door and immediately turned around to look at you as he sat down on the front bench seat. "Shit... I'm sorry... I didn't realise he was going to pull that on you..."
The car door next to your seat then opened and Dean's hands found your left as he took the cuff off of your remaining wrist. "Hey..." Dean spoke in a low whisper. "Look, i get why you hate the cuffs but..."
"If you know why I hate them, then why did you do it?!... You could've just asked me to stay here..." You were still refusing to look at him.
"Would you have stayed if I'd only asked?" Dean's voice was teasing you.
You hesitated at that, probably not. So you chose a different issue to retort back with. "Did you cuff Heddy, or Beverley, or Amber, or Olivia...'"
"Glowworm... Olivia was the shifter." Sam informed you.
You glanced back at Sam, hating that curiosity got the better of you. "She was?"
"Told you it had to be the maid." Dean started to chuckle, but your lack of reaction stopped him quickly in his tracks and he rested a hand on your shoulder closest to him. "I know you're mad. You have every right to be... But I just, I needed to know you were safe and I won't apologise for that..." Then he squeezed your shoulder once before moving back and closing the car door for you.
You heard Dean open the drivers door in front of you and from the corner of your eye you could see him climb in behind the steering wheel. As he turned the ignition over and turned his torso, arm resting on the leather seat to reverse the car out of the parking space as he always did, you turned your head to look out the window of your door. Avoiding his gaze a little longer as you watched the house grow smaller behind you.
Though you remained silent, you still listened in on the boys conversation. Learning that Dean had shot and killed Olivia. The young maid was the illegitimate daughter of Bunny. Bobby had spared her many years ago, when he had killed her father. Hence the key he inherited. The attic was the place where she had been locked away in, until recently.
"Dean, what was that all about back there?" Sam asked his brother, a hint of worry in his voice. "I mean... All those extra shots after the shifter was already dead. What was that?"
