92. The Guest

Am I really seeing what I am seeing? Niall Horan is the president's guest. Literally, I was frozen at the moment. When Niall look at me, he stopped on his tracks and he just stood there looking at me with wide eyes.

Both of us are staring at each other right now and the hair on my skin is certainly rising. There's actually a good five meters space between me and Niall. I just want to break the awkward silence between us, so I cleared my throat and started walking towards him. I stop just in front of him and smiled.

Diana! Niall, is just your ex-boyfriend. No big deal, so you can handle it. Take a deep breathe and just say the right words.

"Hi Mr. Horan!" I said in a professional way. "I'll be leading you up to the V.I.P room where Mr. Carter and you, will have your meeting" I added.

Lucy butted in and it surprised me. "You know Mr. Carter's guest?" She asked.

Niall and I look at her and I immediately said something before Niall could say something not appropriate, "Mr. Carter told me his name" I obviously lied.

"I see!" Lucy nods and went back to her work.

"Let's go?" I asked Niall awkwardly.

Niall did not reply so I decided to just turn my back on him and started walking towards the elevator. I know he'll follow from behind. I press the up button and after a few minutes, the elevator opens. I went in first then I watch my ex-boyfriend as he gets in the elevator.

When both of us is already in the lift, I press the right button to the floor where the V.I.P room is located. I lean on the mirror-walled elevator and just stood there in silence. I am quite sure that neither of us will talk, so I just let it be cause honestly, I don't want to talk to him either.

The world is definitely small, cause I can't believe that Niall and I will meet here in Manhattan. Suddenly, he cleared his throat and it made me look at him. When I face him, I was actually surprise to see him, looking back at me.

"How's life?" Niall finally spoke.

His voice didn't change. That deep, Irish-accented voice is still his voice. The voice that made me fell in love before. I shake my head cause the things that are running in my brain is ridiculous.

"Good!" I nod, looking back at the buttons of the elevator in front of me.

Honestly, it has actually been five months since Niall and I broke up but I don't freaking know why I still feel awkward around him.

"You work here?" My ex-boyfriend continues to ask me questions.

"Yes!" I did not bother asking him a question cause there's nothing to ask, really, so I just answer all of his questions.

The elevator door slides open and I went out first, while Niall went last. We started walking towards the V.I.P room. I twist the door knob and pull the door open.

"After you!" I said and with that Niall went in first.

I went in afterwards. I close the door behind me. I turn the air condition on and set it to twenty degrees, cause it's burning hot outside. I watch Niall as he takes a seat on one of the comfortable chairs.

"Mr. Carter will be here in a few minutes!" I said, sitting a few chairs away from Niall.

"Okay!" He sliglty nod his head.

There was actually an awkward silence after that moment. I just couldn't believe that Niall and I are in the same room.

"What are you doing here?" I finally had the guts to ask him.

"Your boss and I are going to discuss about our companies investment to his company" Niall simply replied.

"I see!" I muttered.

Suddenly, the door flew open and Mr. Carter went in with Austin. Austin's eyes immediately directed to Niall and me. My mouth opens cause I couldn't believe that we are all here in the same room. What I meant by all is the presence of my body, Niall's, and Austin's.

I just hope this day will end well.

Niall's eyes also diverted to Austin when he came in. I'm pretty sure he's shock too.

I immediately snap out of my thoughts when Mr. Carter decided to speak.

"Ah! Mr. Horan, it's nice to meet you" Niall stood up from his seat and shook hands with my boss.

"Nice to meet you too, Mr. Carter".

"Mr. Horan" Austin also shook hands with Niall.

There's actually a big difference from Austin's shake hands with Niall, and the shake hands of Mr. Carter and Niall. Even though it's not my hand, I can feel that Austin's hold is tighter.

Everyone took their seats and started their meeting. I was only there seated, while listening to their conversation cause what do you expect will I do? Say my opinion? I am just a secretary.

The meeting ended and everyone stood up from their seats, including me.

"Thank you so much Mr. Horan" Mr. Carter said.

"No problem" Niall replied.

Mr. Carter left the room first and Austin opened the door for me, which I could tell Niall noticed because he's just a few steps away from the door. When I got out, Austin immediately closed the door and lock it.

I was actually surprise by his actions.

What will Austin do?

Will he beat Niall?

Or the other way will happen?

I don't know.

I actually want to knock on the door and ask them if what's going on, but my tongue is tied right now.
