Chapter (57) Fifty-Seven ~ ...when one friend leaves, the other comes back home

~Olivia~

"You remember what I told you, right? When you go back-"

"Yes, Olvi, I remember. Don't worry, I won't mess it up." Steve looked down at me, placing his arm on my shoulder. "I know what I'm doing."

"Yeah. Yeah, I know that I just... I'm nervous."

"I know you are."

"Hey, Steve." Bucky walked up to us. "Can I talk to you for a sec?"

"Um, yeah, sure." Steve nodded, letting go of me and following Bucky off toward the river.

"Hey, Big Green- careful! You can't press that hard!"

"Remember, you have to return the stones to the exact moment you got 'em or you're gonna open up a portal of a bunch of nasty alternative realities."

"Don't worry, Bruce," Steve reassured, closing the case filled with the stones. "Clip all the branches."

"You know, I tried. When I had the gauntlet, the stones, I really tried to bring her back. I miss her, man."

"Me too." Steve nodded.

"You know, if you want, I could come with you," Sam suggested beside me as the three of us walked to the platform where Bucky stood, patiently waiting.

"You're a good man, Sam. This one's on me, though."

Sam and I allowed Steve to walk back over to Bucky, the two sharing their famous best friend line before embracing. I noticed Bucky's face become that of almost acceptance, and I narrowed my eyes in confusion as the two parted, Bucky mumbling something to the blond.

"Hey, everything okay?" I asked as Steve walked onto the platform, grabbing Thor's 2013 Mjölnir and activating his time suit.

"I'm with you. Of course everything's okay." He smiled at me, pulling me to his side.

"How long is this gonna take?" Sam asked.

"For him, as long as he needs. For us, five seconds." Bruce answered.

"You ready, Cap?" Steve turned and nodded to the giant. "All right, we'll meet you back here, okay?"

"You bet."

"Going quantum. Three... two... one..." Steve disappeared in a flash, Bruce quickly getting to work on getting him back. "And returning in five... four... three... two... one."

Bruce hit the button, and my knees almost gave out upon seeing not Steve, but a woman standing in a dirty time suit in his place.

"He did it," I mumbled, quickly rushing up the stairs and tackling the woman into a hug, making her laugh.

"Oliv, god! You're gonna crush me!" Natasha laughed, her time suit disappearing to reveal the clothes she had been wearing when we last saw her those few days ago.

"I missed you so much, Nat, you can't even imagine."

"Olivia, from my understanding I was only gone for a few days."

"Much too long." I shook my head. "I needed another girl with me. Too much testosterone all over this place."

"I'm sorry, I hate to break up this touching moment, but wheres Steve?" Sam asked, stepping forward as I helped Natasha back to her feet.

"Sam," Bucky spoke, looking into the distance. The falcon slowly walked over, all of us looking to see a figure sitting by the lake.

I left Nat to talk to Bruce, the two needing a moment as I walked over to Bucky, Sam heading toward the man on the stone bench.

"You knew he was going back for her, didn't you?" I mumbled, wrapping my arms around Jamie's waist as he put his real arm around my shoulders.

"Of course I did. It was my idea."

My eyes widened at the confession, my head moving to look up at the man.

"What?" He looked down at me. "I have my girl, after a couple decades of waiting. I think it's time he finally got his, don't you agree?"

I sighed in understanding, knowing how even after all this time, Steve deserved to be happy with the one he had been waiting for.

"Hey, Samantha! You know what this means?" I smiled as Sam walked back to us, carrying Steve's shield.

"Oh, god, what?" He groaned.

"You're officially stuck with us!" I moved to jump onto the man's back.

"Oh, no. I shoulda made a run for it when I could." Sam groaned, trying and failing to get me off of him. "Bucky, come get your girl!"

"Nah, man. I think you've got her just fine at the moment." Bucky chuckled, making me cackle.

"So, what should we do first? I say we play with Sam's new frisbee!"

"It's not a frisbee! It's a shield!"

"Same difference." I waved off.

"... you're the one who made it!"
