Slowly walking down the corridor, I approach the room that River is in. Stopping outside the door, I take a deep breath. I'm about to knock but stop when I hear River talking.
'I mean, fuck Chase. Did this all really happen? When do you think her plan really started? It couldn't have been the whole time. 8 fucking years is a long ass, slow-burn plan.'
'Honestly.' Chase exhales. 'I think this started the moment she knew Briar was going to be around you more frequently. Think about it. I don't believe it's a coincidence that Briar is going to be the team videographer this year and the events that have happened.
I think she heard from Briar that she was going to video the team this season and off Lenyx goes with this crazy fucking plan. She has always wanted to sleep with you, since the beginning. But I think Adam Carmichael is what added EVERYONE into the web.'
Fuck, he's right. Lenyx did start talking more about River after I told her I was chosen to be the team videographer this year.
'You think everything with Adam happened the way she told us?' River asked.
'I don't know, brother. I think only time will tell and reveal all the secrets from this tangled web of bullshit.' Chase laughs.
Shit, Chase was in a serious relationship with her and she dropped him like he was nothing. He will be ok tho, we all will be ok.
Since there is a long silence. I back up a little and walk with heavier steps as I approach his room. I knock, say Hello, and enter simultaneously.
'Hey, how are you?' I ask quietly looking straight at River sitting on the bed. 'Are y'all busy?' I look at Chase and he shakes his head.
'I just got off the phone with William and he agreed to represent you. Well, me too. Anyways, he said he needs the results as soon as they are available. He will have everything arranged, handled, and cleared by the time you walk into the locker room on Monday for practice. He is working on everything now and will call you Monday morning.'
'Thank you so much. I owe William big time for agreeing to help me. I owe you a lot more, Briar. I am -.'
And I cut him off again. I am not ready for this. I can't do this right now. I need to get out of here.
'He is happy to help. You don't owe him anything. But if you must, just get him tickets to a game after you get drafted and he will be happy as a clam.' I try to laugh a little so I don't cry.
Chase's eyes are telling me he knows what I'm feeling right now. I don't dare look into Rivers.
'But I'll leave you alone. I'm gonna go get some coffee. Would you guys like some?' I ask hoping the answer is no.
'No, thank you.' They both respond at the same time.
'Ok.'
I turn around so fast and high-tail it out of there that I probably left scuffs on the floor from burning rubber with my shoes.
Walking back to the waiting room, I am taking big deep breaths because I feel like I'm going to break. I walk up to Hunter and look at him with my watery eyes.
'I'm going to go get some coffee from that place down the street. Would you like some?' I ask him.
'Uh, yeah. Why don't I go with you.' He says in an unsure tone as he stands up.
'No, that's ok. I'd like to go alone. I will be fine. What can I bring you back?' I say.
'Cold brew with salted caramel cream cold foam. Please and thank you.'
