'Hey mom. I didn't know I was going to see you or dad today.' I tell her as I walk over to her and give her cheek a kiss.

'Did Courtney tell you? That Briar has been moving?' She asks excitedly. I nod my head. 'I had a good feel about today when I woke up!' She continues to smile and pulls me into the waiting room.

When I walk in, I go over and greet my dad. Then I say hello to Monica and Willis. Everyone seems to be in really good spirits and it's reassuring. I wanna bust into Briar's room and see her but I'm not sure if that's the next step.

I must've missed him when I first walked in, but William walked up to me and wrapped me in a huge hug. 'Hey man, I'm glad you're finally here.' He says. 'I think you should go in and see Briar.'

'Have y'all already gone in and seen her?' I ask, wanting to make sure I'm not stopping them from seeing her. That is something that has been very important to me, making sure her family gets all the time they want with her. Even though I'd love to hog my wife and stay with her 24/7!

'We saw her earlier, sweetheart. Go on in and give her some love.' Monica tells me.

I have a strange feeling as I'm getting closer to the door. I'm not sure what it is but I hope it's something good. Opening the door, I peek in and see Courtney sitting next to Briar's bed.

When Courtney sees me, she immediately gets up and comes over for a hug. 'I'll leave you alone so you can have some time together. Let me know if you need anything.' She says as she leaves.

I need to remember to share my location with her and Briar's, too.

After a deep breath, I walk over to the bed and sit down next to my amazing wife. I give her a kiss on the cheek as I snuggle up to her and place my face in her neck. Well, I snuggle into her as best I can with the neck brace.

She still smells wrong, like medical stuff and disinfectant.

I place her hand in mine, like I always do, and close my eyes to soak up the feeling of being near her. Since Court said that she has been moving a little bit, I thought there would be a nurse in here, watching her or something. I guess the machines will alert them if something happens.

I must have drifted off to sleep. I can't lie, the only time I can get any decent sleep is when I'm here with Briar.

I feel a little tug on my hand. Wait, did I?

I open my eyes to see who was trying to wake me up but I don't see anyone. I must have imagined it. I close my eyes and immediately snap them open when I feel the same little tug on my hand. This time it was with the smallest squeeze.

BRIAR!

I abruptly sit up in the bed and look at my wife to see her eyes open and she is looking at me.

HOLY FUCK!

My love is awake! What do I do?! Of course, I start sobbing like the emotional bastard that I am.

'Darlin?' I choke.

She blinks and nods her head the smallest bit because she is wearing the stupid brace because of the tubes and shit.

'Ok, sweetheart.' I tell her as I press the nurse button. 'I will get you some help.'

'Do you need assistance?' The nurse asks through the little speaker on the bed.

'Ye-yes. She squeezed my hand and her eyes are open. Can you please send the doctor?' I tell them.

'Right away, Mr. Blankenship.' They reply.

'Oh, Briar. I love you so much. I missed you more than you can imagine.' I cry to her as I kiss her hand and place it on my cheek.

I am an emotional mess while one of the doctors comes in through the medical staff door. Looking over at him as he looks at Briar as he comes to her bedside, he smiles.
