Silence descends after my confession but the rage emitting from Dominic's pores confirms that he heard me. I don't know what he'll do but somewhere in my gut, I trust that he won't hold me responsible for whatever happened to me.
"I am sorry."
Out of all the words that I had expected, these were the last. Jerking my head at those wrenched out words, I look up at him and almost immediately lean back.
His eyes are all red. It's a scary sight to look into his red eyes and his descended fangs.
He snarls and then pulls me back, his expression and his touch completely opposite to each other.
"Sorry," he murmurs once again, but this time there's a growly quality to his voice.
"Why are you sorry?" I ask, unable to keep that thought out of my mind. He lets me lean back a little now, and that's when I see that he's mellowed down a little. Instead of red eyes, now at least the sclera is visible. His pupils, however, still stay a bright red. His fangs are also slightly peeking through his lips.
"I was supposed to protect you. I should have at least tried to save you earlier. I couldn't protect you in your last lifetime and even in this lifetime you suffered. All because of me."
"Why because of you?"
Dominic closes his eyes and then shrugs his shoulders as if not really knowing why.
"In your last lifetime, I am sure the vampire who murdered you found out that you are my mate. That's why he stalked you, invaded into your home and took your blood without consent. I... I was late to reach you and you had already lost a lot of blood. I couldn't even give you my blood, you didn't have any of your human blood left to accept my vampire blood."
His words bring back those memories. Like a freight train, the memories rush through my mind and Dominic gasps when the face of the vampire who attacked me in my previous lifetime runs at the forefront.
"That's the vampire that attacked you?" Dominic's shocked voice echoes in my ears as he shifts back a little. He gets out of the bed and starts pacing in front of me. All the while he is clutching onto his head as if reliving some horrific moment of his life.
He appears scared and that thought stresses me.
I have never seen Dominic so tensed before.
"He's Wulfric!"
I startle, shocked at his emotional display. Dominic's shock is evident from the tone of his words. I nod at his words, not really understanding the direction of his thoughts.
I peek into his mind and it's a very easy passage for me because Dominic's completely engrossed in his thoughts.
As I try to gather information, it's becoming evident that Dominic thinks that he's responsible for Wulfric coming after me.
But I am already shaking my head at this possibility.
How is it possible that Wulfric hurt me in both of my lives because of Dominic. In the first life perhaps it might have been because of Dominic but there is no way that Wulfric knew about me being Dominic's second chance mate in this lifetime.
Therefore, it is nearly impossible that Wulfric came after me because of Dominic. I am just the unlucky witch-wolf to have been raised in captivity and then given away to Wulfric as his slave.
It was my destiny, not Dominic's.
"No, it was not your destiny. It's all connected. I get it now. Wulfric came behind me, he found out who my mate is, in both the lifetimes!" Dominic is now in a frenzy, agitated enough to not realize that he's speaking his thoughts out loud.
