Hero

You are not a hero.
You're just a little kid.
You're mature because you got hurt too soon,
No one helped you as you slid.

A long time ago you stopped your crying,
You thought it was because you knew better.
You don't fight with your parents.
That rebel, you thought you'd forget her.

But she refused to be buried,
In the past, drowning in red.
She fought back up to the surface,
Baring her teeth as she bleed.

I am not the hero,
Because I went through pain.
Though I am the one who bound my wounds
When there was nothing left to save.

I am also the ticking bomb,
ticking life away.
I am the maker of these scars,
does that make it okay?

Because I am not the hero.
I cause all the pain.
Does that make me the villain?
The one who couldn't be saved?

Am I just a machine?
Replacing broken parts?
The old and the new, they don't all fit.
Can't mend this missing heart.

Because I am not the hero.
I'm not the one who saves.
I am the villain of the story,
The one who causes pain.

The pieces I've lost, I can't replace them,
I can't help the missing in me.
I can't even take off this mask that I'm wearing.
I can't help that I'm not even free.

Because I am the villain!
I can't escape this hell.
I was locked in prison with no way out.
I should know, I built this myself.

Not me. (2023)Where stories live. Discover now
